Albeit, when a user upgrade from Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 to Windows 10 with "express settings" selected, it does indeed reset all default apps and their file associations, but requires a bit more effort to set new default apps.

Guest post: Symbian OS - one of the most successful failures in tech history - 6 views

  •
Symbian is the biggest smartphone operating system by market share, the oldest smartphone platform still in use, used by almost every major OEM at one time or another. Yet one could be forgiven for thinking Symbian is dead and buried, with news of layoffs at Nokia, management departures at the Symbian Foundation and rough reviews of the latest flagship N8 device. How does a platform powering 9 million new devices every month have almost no credibility with developers, analysts and press alike? This is the story of one of the most successful failures in tech history.

ODP - Open Directory Project - 0 views

  •
The Open Directory Project is the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory of the Web. It is constructed and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors. The Republic of the Web The web continues to grow at staggering rates. Automated search engines are increasingly unable to turn up useful results to search queries. The small paid editorial staffs at commercial directory sites can't keep up with submissions, and the quality and comprehensiveness of their directories has suffered. Link rot is setting in and they can't keep pace with the growth of the Internet. Instead of fighting the explosive growth of the Internet, the Open Directory provides the means for the Internet to organize itself. As the Internet grows, so do the number of net-citizens. These citizens can each organize a small portion of the web and present it back to the rest of the population, culling out the bad and useless and keeping only the best content. The Definitive Catalog of the Web The Open Directory follows in the footsteps of some of the most important editor/contributor projects of the 20th century. Just as the Oxford English Dictionary became the definitive word on words through the efforts of volunteers, the Open Directory follows in its footsteps to become the definitive catalog of the Web. The Open Directory was founded in the spirit of the Open Source movement, and is the only major directory that is 100% free. There is not, nor will there ever be, a cost to submit a site to the directory, and/or to use the directory's data. The Open Directory data is made available for free to anyone who agrees to comply with our free use license. The Internet Brain The Open Directory is the most widely distributed data base of Web content classified by humans. Its editorial standards body of net-citizens provide the collective brain behind resource discovery on the Web. The Open Directory powers the core directory services for the Web's largest and most popular search

It's always better online - 1 views

There is still a major fraction of industry that refuses to accept the full efficiency and economy of the Internet. Sure, they might be using email and Google search, but that's about it. I'd like to create a list that spans various cross-sections of industries that are still missing the big picture. Feel free to chirp in with any other examples.

HOW TO GET MASSIVE TRAFFIC FROM CRAIGSLIST - 1 views

  •
Looking for the best way to drive a massive amount of traffic to my site and my blog, I've recently stumbled upon a very interesting article about Craigslist. I've always been considering it a very primitive website, as far as the design is concerned. However, Craigslist ranks among the 25 most visited sites of the world (Alexa.com traffic rankings, april 2009) and without any doubt it's the most important classified ads platform worldwide. I know that Google Adwords is very effective, other similar advertising programs are good too, but what if we could produce the same amount of traffic (or even more) using Craigslist for free? The idea is creating an appealing advertisement (with a link pointing to our website) and posting it in multiple sections of Craigslist corresponding to the major cities of the world (highly populated cities such as New York, Los Angeles, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, etc.). This will certainly produce a massive traffic flow. The problem is that if we post the same ad (or similar ads) in multiple cities, all our ads will be detected by Craigslist spiderbots and deleted by the staff. Even if we offer serious products we will be considered spammers, and if we insist, we will be banned .... ..... and this will happen unless we use the method discovered by Steve Mount to avoid being detected by the spiderbots and to avoid being deleted. Follow the link to read more .....
