Looking for the best way to drive a massive amount of traffic to my site and my blog, I've recently stumbled upon a very interesting article about Craigslist. I've always been considering it a very primitive website, as far as the design is concerned. However, Craigslist ranks among the 25 most visited sites of the world (Alexa.com traffic rankings, april 2009) and without any doubt it's the most important classified ads platform worldwide. I know that Google Adwords is very effective, other similar advertising programs are good too, but what if we could produce the same amount of traffic (or even more) using Craigslist for free? The idea is creating an appealing advertisement (with a link pointing to our website) and posting it in multiple sections of Craigslist corresponding to the major cities of the world (highly populated cities such as New York, Los Angeles, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, etc.). This will certainly produce a massive traffic flow. The problem is that if we post the same ad (or similar ads) in multiple cities, all our ads will be detected by Craigslist spiderbots and deleted by the staff. Even if we offer serious products we will be considered spammers, and if we insist, we will be banned .... ..... and this will happen unless we use the method discovered by Steve Mount to avoid being detected by the spiderbots and to avoid being deleted. Forget everything you know about Windows Mobile. Seriously, throw the whole OS concept in a garbage bin or incinerator or something. Microsoft has done what would have been unthinkable for the company just a few years ago: started from scratch. At least, that's how things look (and feel) with Windows Phone 7 Series. This really is a completely new OS -- and not just Microsoft's new OS, it's a new smartphone OS, like webOS new, like iPhone OS new. You haven't used an interface like this before (well, okay, if you've used a Zune HD then you've kind of used an interface like this). Still, 7 Series goes wider and deeper than the Zune by a longshot, and it's got some pretty intense ideas about how you're supposed to be interacting with a mobile device. We had a chance to go hands-on with the dev phone before today's announcement, and hear from some of the people behind the devices, and here's our takeaway. Of course it is disappointing when you realize that you and a friend were at the same place (a live show or a movie theatre maybe) but missed a chance of meeting there because you had no idea of each other's presence in this very place. This is the problem solved by Facebook Places: it lets you show your friends where you currently are and also see who is nearby at this very moment. Localley goes one step further: we eliminate the disappointment that is inevitable when you find out you missed an event you really wanted to attend only because you had no one to go with - and later found out that some friends were at this very event and you could easily join them. Localley lets you share your plans to go somewhere with your friends and even invite them to join you - which will quickly solve a problem of a company.

My idea is to create a system called The Startup Guild that is somewhat like a distributed and virtual version of YCombinator. The Startup Guild would use game mechanics to help track and match up participants into self supporting mastermind groups. As an analogy, if YCombinator were client-server, the Startup Guild would be a torrent tracker. The main premise of the guild would be to help entrepreneurs build their first profitable business via the unfunded route of bootstrapping, however there would be nothing about the guild to exclude participants from seeking funding or placement at an incubator.
