Bit.ly Button - jQuery Plugin for Your Clicky Post - 15 views

  •
bit.ly -The intelligent URL shortener- offers realtime statistics about the clicks on shortened links and this button takes advantage of that information. This jQuery button give you a uniform click count button -tall or wide- that people can also use it to retweet your post. When you use a short link to tweet your post, it may get 100 retweets but in terms of bit.ly stats that could mean 1000 clicks coming from the whole twitter ecosystem which makes another interesting measure of how popular is your post!

JungleJar | 2 Really Useful Code Snippet Applications - 0 views

  •
Time and time again I find myself trying to remember a bit of PHP or CSS code that I've used before to perform some sort of function. This is why most any web developer needs a code snippet application to archive those bits of code. In this article I bring attention to Snippley, a fantastic Adobe Air desktop application, and also Snipt, which is a web application based around a community to boot.

Albeit, when a user upgrade from Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 to Windows 10 with "express settings" selected, it does indeed reset all default apps and their file associations, but requires a bit more effort to set new default apps.

SMS Birth Registration: People, Ideas And Culture Responds To PSFK Future Of Health Rep... - 5 views

In many developing nations, newborn babies are in a bit of a blind spot. Difficulties in registering births both for the parents and the government make it hard to keep check of the population. But with the insight that people have access to mobile phones and networks (Africa, for example), we've developed a service that allows the parents to register the birth of a child via their cellphone, and that also rewards them for doing so.

Automated Filtering vs Human-Powered Curation » Browse My Stuff - 4 views

  •
With solutions like Paper.li and Browse My Stuff grabbing attention, and with people like Robin Good doing a series on Real-Time News Curation, and Ross Dawson tells us has curation has hit the tipping point, it seems like the concepts of curation, aggregation, filtering are suddenly a central conversation.  Of course, this has long been a conversation as Robin, Ross or I could tell you.  However, what has really changed here is first the explosion of content sources.  As Robin put it: "You cannot follow and keep yourself updated in an effective way by simply subscribing to as many sources as possible." I would also say that what has really changed is the sophistication of automated filtering to deal with extracting value from the noise.  I had an interesting exchange with Robin around the question of what constitutes filtering and how that differs from curation.  I'll get to that in a bit.  Let' me first provide some background on filtering.

BurnURL: Don't Just Shorten URLs ... Burn Them! - 0 views

shared by Anton S. on 06 Mar 09 - Cached
  •
"When you click a BurnURL, the experience is a bit different than most shorteners. You'll see what we call the "ShareBar," which includes convenient links to share the story on popular social networks like Twitter, Facebook, and Digg, a hit count showing how many times the link has been visited, and options to vote the story up or down and see the overall rating from visitors. As you can imagine, all of these actions and data points create an opportunity to do lots of interesting stuff, and get back to something similar to the original ReadBurner."

Fantastic Windows Freeware | Mohawk Media - 0 views

I started putting together this list, and got a bit carried away. It ended up turning into a recommended list of free (mostly open-source) tools to do almost all of the essential tasks most people require of their computer. Almost all of the programs mentioned below are free open source software, though some are free versions of larger commercial products. Also note that this article is primarily aimed at Windows PC users, but almost all of these tools are also available on OSX and Linux.

100 Tips to Be a Smarter, Better Twitterer | Computer Colleges - 0 views

  •
For Beginners If you're just getting started, be sure to follow these tips. 1. Set up your profile: Give people a glimpse beyond what your tweets reveal. 2. Include a picture: Make sure you add a photo of yourself so that your tweets will be more personal. 3. Create a simple and short Twitter name: The longer your Twitter ID, the more space it takes up, and having a complicated name can make it hard for people to respond to or mention you. 4. Just do it: Don't just lurk-jump into the conversation. 5. Make your profile link something that tells more about you: Share your blog, an about me page, or any other page that offers more information about the person behind the tweets. 6. Share photos: Post your photos on Twitter to shake things up a bit and add some interest to your stream. 7. Use proper grammar: Occasional abbreviations are passable, but make sure that your tweets are readable. 8. Use your real name: Build your personal brand by choosing your real name as your Twitter ID. 9. List your location: Many people use Twitter for local networking, so they'll be more likely to follow you if they know where you are. 10. Learn the lingo: If you don't know what DM, @, RT, and other Twitter symbols and words are, look them up or ask. 11. Don't rush to build your network: Don't follow hundreds of people right away-allow your following to grow organically. 12. Reply to someone with @: Place an @ sign in front of someone's name on Twitter to write to them specifically, or simply just mention them-they will be notified that you did so. 13. Shrink your URLs: Use a URL shortener like TinyURL or is.gd to make it easier to fit into 140 characters. 14. Use your mobile device: Tweet from your phone, iPod, or other mobile device to keep your Twitter updated on the go, using the mobile web or text. 15. Find your friends: Use Twitter's search in order to find your friends, organizations, and others that you may want to follow o

How to create a custom Facebook Landing Page in 5 minutes or less - Social Media - 21 views

  •
There are a variety of reasons why Red Bull has over 20 million Facebook fans, but one that surfaces to the top is their unapologetic "Like our Page, hint, hint" custom landing greeting. And while Red Bull has a budget larger than most of us, that doesn't mean we're cut out of the custom landing page party. Thanks to a fantastic WordPress plugin and a bit of copy/paste inside Facebook, you can have a custom landing page up and running within 5 minutes.
