Digg and del.icio.us are surprisingly effective at capturing the zeitgeist within a group of web users. Bookmarks grow in popularity based on how frequently they are saved. Bookmarking serves as an information filter - if thousands of individuals found a particular resource to be valuable (or at least of interest), it can be assumed to be of greater significance or originality.
