  • They rest on 50 years of research on the way teachers teach and students learn how students work and play with one another, and how students and faculty talk to each other.
  • While each practice can stand alone on its own, when all are present their effects multiply. Together they employ six powerful forces in education: activity, expectations, cooperation, interaction, diversity, and Responsibility.

  • Key Findings Here are just some of the findings from this report:E-Learning 2.0 modalities are growing at very fast rates with use of blogs up 20.7% from a year ago, communities of practice up 12.3%, and Wikis up 7.7%.40% of respondents indicate they are making some use of e-Learning 2.0 approaches.Over the next 12 months, 70.1% of survey respondents plan to apply more e-Learning 2.0 approaches to their learning endeavors.66% of survey respondents believe that younger workers will demand e-Learning 2.0 approaches to performance support.Only 28.1% of members report that their organizations are preparing workers on using Web 2.0 approaches for learning and work.Among members working in organizations with 10,000 or more workers, 10.8% cannot access LinkedIn, 26.2% cannot access Gmail, 35.0% cannot access YouTube, and 39.2% cannot access either Facebook or MySpace.Among members who have made significant use of e-Learning 2.0 approaches, 60.6% reporting improved learner / user performance.

  • The buttons link to pages that simply provide a place to upload a document, which is exactly what most instructors do: upload word–processed files of their classroom materials. They are encouraged to “plug in” their content under the appropriate category instead of envisioning a translation of their individual pedagogical style into an online environment. Blackboard “tends to encourage a linear pathway through the content” [3], and its default is to support easy uploading and text entry to achieve that goal.
  • Even after several years of working with the CMS, faculty requests for help focus on what the technology can do, rather than how their pedagogical goals can be achieved.
  • Morgan notes such improvement as a “side effect of the use of the software rather than a direct result of its use” [5] — those willing to play around with the features tend to discover new directions for their teaching.
