Nouns which are both countable and uncountable - 1 views

  •
This activity can be practiced with pre-intermediate level students. It introduces the learners with nouns that are both countable and uncountable. It allows learners to notice both usages of the nouns in context which are both grammatically correct but one of the sentences sounds unusual or strange. Learners should find out which is more common in each pair.

Teaching time - 1 views

  •
I used this video/audio file for teaching time to 15 AUA, EEC upper-elementary level children whose age ranged from 8 to 11. This video/audio file helped me to keep children's' attention focused on learning. At first, they were supposed to watched the video and then to tell the correct time. This activity worked well and all the students learned the target material properly, moreover, there wasn't a need to play the video file several times.

Free Rice - fight hunger in the world - 1 views

  •
This is a very good activity to improve vocabulary. What is more interesting and even important about this site is that while you play, you can earn grains of rice for each correct answer that will be donated for charity, to help stop hunger in the world. You can also play with grammar here (free rice grammar). There are 60 levels for vocabulary and 5 levels for grammar. They increase by difficulty as you proceed. While trying this with my students, what was so exciting for them was that they learned by answerng correctly they are particpating in a humanitarian act and this greatly motivated them to answer the tests and learn new vocabulary. Though we did just the first 2 levels, the next session almost all of them said that they kept playing it to collect more rice and for this they had learned a large number of new vocabulary. They also said they are gonna play it again when finished both to collect more rice for hunger as well as review what they had learned.

Funny English - 2 views

Dear all, here is a link where I found a collection of strange signs. You may enjoy sharing it with your students or colleagues. Actually it is not an activity but it is an excellent raw material for creating a good activity. For example you may ask your students to decide what is wrong in these signs and getting students to correct them. Since the list is very funny and authentic I think it is very motivating for discussing it too so this may become a very good topic for the classroom discussion. Anyway I think you may create an excellent activity for the development of your students' speaking skills.
