This is a set of resources I have created including videos and 'how to' examples of game maker skills and concepts. The examples use game maker 8.1 and will soon be accompanied by examples using Game Maker Studio.

The advantage of scripts over regular pieces of code is that they could be performed more than once, saving file size, memory, and also making the code simpler to read, understand, and edit.

This is a great video that goes over the basics of game maker studio.

This video (and channel) deals with making a simple Platform game using the game maker language. You can see how the D&D actions of GM are translated into code, and how much you can manipulate them to do what you want, instead of being limited by the D&D's format. For someone with no previous experience with GM or coding, these videos can be very useful as an intro to what you can do with the software.

This post introduced me to the concept of bells which I find very useful, especially if you want an enemy to shoot in intervals.

This is really helpful for people who don't understand how the game works or how to play the game. If I was new to game maker this would really help me understand the concept of game maker and the basics of how it works.

This tutorial shows how to add alarms in Game Maker. I won't have them in my game, but it seems pretty useful.
