This video is very cool and it not only teaches you things about gamemaker, but it also shows you cool things about how to create a great 3d game. Also, if you like to go outside the box, than you will definately like this video.
Although a majority of the sprites are based (or are from) animes, there are still a whole bunch of cool sprites that you can incorporate into your game here. They also have some cool backgrounds you can use!
This site is a tremendous resource for learning how to accomplish many tasks in Game Maker. The video tutorials show you step by step how to achieve so much. Tutorials range from beginning through advanced and cover different types of games, skills, etc.

I think this is a place where you can find ripped sprites or fan-made sprites from several games (I'm not sure which ones), but if you're looking for some anime-style sprites to incorporate, this is the place to go! :D The pixels themselves are great.
