I love this site! They also have an inexpensive magazine, but much of the content is available on the site, blogs, and archives. Everything about sustainable living.

Wow, that is a treasure trove of soil nerdiness! Very cool. I certainly won't read all 871 pages but the overview sections at the beginning will help me learn a lot. I noticed a huge difference between gardening in Northampton for two years, and Greenfield where I am now. In Noho, I was pretty close to the river, I guess on the 100 year flood plain, and the soil was much richer, darker and had more organic matter. In Greenfield it's more dense and clay-like. I'm not sure of the geological reason for that but it's a different gardening experience.

I forgot about this database and am so grateful to be reintroduced to it. I've got a garden patched with areas that grow weeds but nothing else. I've been looking for more information about which native species to Wash. state would thrive in my garden. The sources I find online are too generic. Thanks for sharing this information! Joy
