The Roger K. Summit Scholarship, awarded annually by ProQuest, was established to honor Dr. Roger K. Summit, the founder of Dialog, a ProQuest business, for his outstanding contributions to the field of information science.

In 2014, more than 250 titles received an SLJ star;from that group, 70 books were chosen by the review editors as the best of the best. From raucous read-alouds to off-the-wall adventure, there is something for everyone on this list. Dig in and happy reading.

Go the education section of your local newspaper. Watch the local news or check out the station's website for stories about education. How many stories deal with controversy and shed a negative light on the state of education in your community? Now look again for the other perspective.

Inquiry-based learning has been around in education circles for a long time, but many teachers and schools gradually moved away from it during the heyday of No Child Left Behind.
