Excited to find a resource for teaching information literacy and research skills to middle schoolers.

I'm excited to read more. Our ELA teachers work so hard at this in middle school. These are big tasks to teach in addition to everything else they need to teach! At the same time, it is exactly what middle school students need before they reach the high school where they must apply research skills.

SDPC: Search Alliance Website - 0 views

SDPC stands for the Student Data Privacy Consortium. If a district doesn't have a strong vetting procedure in place for online programs/apps, I would recommend teachers start with this source. It allows them to see if and how other districts vetted websites and apps.

Introduction to Media Literacy: Crash Course Media Literacy - 0 views

  •
Part of a video series that covers broad topics in education in short, entertaining videos - think the "Cliff Notes" version. It would be a great introduction to a unit for students, as well as teachers to enhance their knowledge of a subject. I would recommend it for upper elementary - high school. The particular video is on Media Literacy, but there are tons of other videos too - science, math, STEAM, theater & drama, etc. There are over 8 million subscribers to their channel, so they must be good! :-)

This YouTube series explains what media literacy is, its history, and why it's important. I would use this to teach teachers and new librarians. I would also use it to teach media literacy at the secondary level.

  •
By Michael Robinson Chair, ALA-IFC Privacy Subcommittee Associate Professor at the Consortium Library, University of Alaska - Anchorage Crossposted from ChoosePrivacyWeek.org The American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom demonstrated its foresight when it started the Choose Privacy Week program in 2010, launching an ongoing program to raise awareness among libraries and library users about the dangers of government surveillance and demonstrating why privacy is important, especially in light of the growing use of online resources and services.
