Wisconsin DPI #GoOpen Initiative

"The Wisconsin Digital Learning Plan, aligned with Agenda 2017, outlines a vision of digital education in Wisconsin including the integration of Open Education Resources (OER) to increase equity and access to high-quality K-12 instructional resources." Since Educator Effectiveness has hit Wisconsin head on, here are some OER that will help us all. These resources will be especially helpful when planning the staff development which will be required for EE.

This resource is going to continue to grow. DPI is seeking good OER to include.

This would be great for PD - I don't know how many teachers are aware of this site created by the DPI for teachers (and librarians!) to share lesson plans, activities, and even library pans.

"Be Internet Awesome is a collaboration between Google and the Internet Keep Safe Coalition (iKeepSafe.org). It is "a multifaceted program designed to teach kids the skills they need to be safe and smart online." The resource includes a game called, Interland, that can be a stand alone tool as well as a full curriculum that enables teachers to teach digital citizenship fundamentals. The lesson plans are geared toward grades 3 to 5." It think this is a great free tool from Google that I had not heard about that allows teachers to gameify Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship. I played the game a bit and I wonder if maybe teachers should take it, as we had a phishing spam a few years ago where teachers gave personal information online to an email that looked like it came from our local credit union.

This lesson plan has students complete a scavenger hunt that requires them to explore the resources on Badgerlink. It could be adapted and used for students in upper elementary through high school.

This scavenger hunt can be used to help familiarize upper elementary students with Explora's content and features. Students conduct several searches and learn how to organize and refine the results.

"A selection of resources to help teachers learn more about and get started with Google Expeditions." This resource will help teachers learn how Google Expeditions works and see which Expeditions are available. This is a resource that many teachers may know very little about. If devices for VR are a difficulty to obtain, there are also free resources for them. Cellcom in our area allows classroom kits to be shipped out to a teacher for a short amount of time.

Students can create their own trading cards / flash cards about people or events that happened in a book they're reading.

This lesson plan may be used at the high school level, students may pick a product and improve the product. This lesson is based on the popular show "Shark Tank."

3-day lesson to help students with Notice and Note reading strategies, along with worksheets, bookmarks, signs, etc.

This site from NASA and Design Squad offers activities, videos, lesson plans, and guides for engaging kids in hands-on engineering activities. There are several guides for running 6-week or 12-week clubs or after school events. I am always on the lookout for activities that promote design thinking that I can use for a maker event or as a creative warm-up for one of my clubs. Lots of good ideas here!

Great resource for writing teachers of all ages for mentor texts to use when teaching writing skills to students.

Smartie the Penguin is geared for students aged 4 to 7 to explore online safety. The three themes of popups/in app purchases; inappropriate websites, and cyberbullying are all covered in an age appropriate way with opportunities for students to discuss scenarios on what Smartie should do.

This lesson walks students in grades 2 and 3 through the process of creating a research paper on a US state. The slides document is interactive and provides a step-by-step method for creating a final product.

Students can discuss text-dependent questions to promote an understanding of the story's character. This resource features a trading card creator for each significant character in the story.
