An experiment from IBM Research. A collection of data visualizations and a new social kind of data analysis. View and discuss, or create visualizations from data sets.
This site is all data sets that are easily searched as well as easy to export data sets from. These data offer a rich learning opportunity for interesting mathematical thinking within the real world context.
Created through Utah State University, the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives has an extensive collection of online manipulatives for preK-grade 12. Manipulatives are sorted by topic: number and operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, and data analysis and probability. The CD for purchase which is referenced on the site is only needed if one does not have access to the internet. Otherwise the site if free.
Wolfram Alpha is an "answer engine" that responds to queries by computing answers from data. For example, if "Hong Kong" and "New York" are typed into the search box, Wolfram computes their relative populations, distance and flying times, time zone and current time, etc.
This site provides a great amount of technology-based resources for mathematical learning with a social justice consciousness. There are links to data sets related to social justice issues, links to various math standards sites, and sites to mathematical learning reform websites.
