Students can use this site to find data and statistics on almost any subject. For example, a student could enter "Wisconsin" in the search bar and find out anything from population to the lowest point in the state. I even typed in my name, and found that there are just over 888,000 Sarahs expected to be alive today. This site is informative as well as interesting!
  •
That sounds like a fun website. Possibly a great website for those students who may need to be challenged more than the others. I bet some kids would really get into this site! Thanks for sharing, Sarah!

Lego City - 5 views

Middle schoolers love this! This site is very fun, obviously engaging for students, and could be used for varying purposes. Students can create their own comics, using as many or as little words as they like, and individualize their projects setting the scene and characters.

I think elementary students would enjoy it too. Thank you for sharing the site.
  •
I just spent a little time playing with this, and it's very user friendly. My students would be able to figure it out in no time, and create some very suspenseful comics. I also like how you can adjust the sizes of graphics and you can "tilt" the setting. Students will enjoy how detailed they can be. I can use this as an alternative to professor garfield. Thank you for sharing.
  •
Very cool site. I'm thinking of a way I can use this with my 8th graders as they storyboard for their projects. Very fun!
  •
I love Legos! This is a really cool site. I will have to use it in an upcoming reading project.
  •
This is more than just building with Legos on the computer. This is placing them in a story-board and coming up with a comic book/story with the Legos. What a creative way to use Legos without actually having them in your hands!

Blogspot - 1 views

This is a great place to set up a website for classroom or personal use. Many teachers are now moving toward websites on blogspot. You are able to do so many things on these blogs such as: post pictures, play music, follow others, post documents, etc. These blogs are incredible. I usually get lured into one, then another and another most days/nights and before I know it...an hour has passed. Why not set your blog up today?

The Daily Cafe - 0 views

This site has been created by the 2 Sisters, Gail Boushey and Joan Moser. They are responsible for the literacy approaches of The Daily 5 and The Cafe. The site has a wealth of free information, including videos, to help teachers implement the Daily 5 and Cafe techniques in their classroom. The Sisters also have a free e-mail tip of the week that you may sign up for. For even more information, teachers may subscribe to the site. The site does not provide activities for students to complete online, however, the Daily 5 and Cafe are designed to help students practice, review, and apply their knowledge of literacy skills in the classroom through the use of centers, small group work, and one-on-one teacher conferencing.
  •
Laura, Thanks for reminding me about this site. I've been struggling with conferencing in a meaningful way with students, and also with assessment. There are some resources here I haven't seen. Are you doing CAFE?

This is a wonderful site for students to use with multimedia presentations. It offers royalty-free music that can legally be used by our students for public presentation. The music is actually of high-quality and is abundant. This site further lends itself to the discussion of what can legally be used.

The games on this site will help students build their multiplication skills, and they will have a blast as they learn. Give the Diaper Derby game a try!
  •
I have to say, I really enjoyed the Diaper Derby :) What I liked about this site is it gives the teacher ideas of ways to teach the multiplication facts as well as games for students to practice their facts. You can also customize many things to practice certain levels of facts. I also noticed that the site has ideas for additional games you can play with the entire class or small groups!

I've actually been looking for a website like this to help my 8 year old learn her math facts in a fun way. This is perfect! So many different options, too, which is great. Thanks Sarah!

2nd Grade Internet Links - 0 views

I stumbled upon this site by chance and just love it! It has links to dozens of sites that provide practice in many different areas of reading, writing/grammar, math, science and social studies. I could easily incorporate many of the reading and writing/grammar links, especially the phonics, sight words, and spelling sites into my "word work" literacy station.

Curriculum 21 - 2 views

Looking for activities and lessons for preparing students for the 21st century? Well, this is the jackpot of resources. I was introduced to this site at a conference on the subject of 21st Century curriculum, and this site is loaded with ideas for alternative forms for assessing students. You will also find various links to websites that offer interactive and student owned activities and projects.
  •
I like this one. I had fun playing with Google Image Swirl. Does anyone use any of the curriculum mapping resources. Some of them looked similar to what we're using in the "Best Practices" course.

Survey Monkey - 0 views

This can be a great site for gathering a great deal fo information from and about students. It is very easy to create a survey about just about any topic. One potential use that I see is using it as a pretest.. I would have the students take the survey on survey monkey about general ideas of the upcoming unit. I would then post the big questions about the unit throughout the room. I would then post some charts showing the scores (aggregate) from before and after the unit, highlighting the learning that took place.

A bountiful resource for reader's theatre scripts.
  •
I actually did a presentation on reader's theatre when I was in college and this was one of the sites I used. It is wonderful and has a great library of scripts at many levels. Very useful to teachers looking for a creative way to revamp their reading curriculum.

I Know That - 2 views

This is a fabulous site, but unfortunately it cost $60 per year to have full access. One pro is that there is absolutely no advertising and the material is very well organized. The content is suitable for elementary school children to practice and review skills in all subject areas. You can specifically select the grade level and subject. They do offer a free trial.

ICT Games - 1 views

This site provides content mainly for younger children in preschool or early elementary. The site says they are "infant games," but I'm not sure too many children under one that could do any of these activities. At the homepage, you have two choices. Access either numeracy for math related practice or literacy for reading and word practice. The site also provides additional links for student practice. In addition, there are some printable resources. One drawback to this site is that it contains a great deal of advertising which is maybe why it has some pretty good content for free.

This site has lots of interactive elements and many resources. There are phonics games for practice and review, and "alphabet organizers" where students can make their own alphabet books, using their own words. There are interactive poetry tutorials that allow the student to easily create and print his/her own poem. I like that the site has literacy activities and ideas for students in middle school -- I've never met an ELL student that likes to do second grade work.

This is a large site having sections on DNA, genetics, heredity, and cells.  There are interactives, paper and pencil activities, animations, and much more.
  •
This site has some excellent resources for high school biology students. There are tutorials for several areas to reinforce classroom teaching. Students can practice on their own making DNA molecules and transcribing and transating DNA and RNA strands, creating their own karyotypes, and more. The interactive features on the site are great nonlinguistic tools for students who are struggling or need practice with biology basics.

This is a fun and education site for kids that has word and knowledge games, music, jokes, and homework help studying tips. The music section of the site has lyrics to kids' favorite songs, music videos, biographical information on a featured musician, and music trivia. It also allows you to submit a question on any music artist you are interested in.

Fun site for kids! Have you looked at the "Jokes" section. . . very cheesy. :)

I use a similar recipe with my kids. It is very easy and they also love to help make it.
  •
My favorite thing about this recipe is that if the play-doh dries out, you can easily add water and it comes back to life. Talk about a renewable resource!
  •
I made this with my Kindergarten class and they loved it! Thanks for the recipe!!
