My own kids like this site. It is a nice way for them to use technology in an educationally sound way. And yes, I have played some of these games as well. Fun!

A fun site for K-8 activities

A great place to teach and learn about not only time lines but also to find out "great people" in history who share the same birthday as you. You can also find out peers, aka people who were born in the same year as you around the same month.

This is a fun and easy to use activity, especially for younger kids not completely familiar with timelines. And Sarah, I also find the age thing useful- I had a group of fourth graders this morning who didn't have a clue what Jurassic Park was (seriously, are we old?):)

A fun site to use with students! I liked finding out who my famous "peers" are that share my birhtday &/or birth year. The peers that share my birth year are Neve Campbell and Monica Lewinsky, what does that say about me? :)

Full of games, music and movies....just for kids!

This is a fun and education site for kids that has word and knowledge games, music, jokes, and homework help studying tips. The music section of the site has lyrics to kids' favorite songs, music videos, biographical information on a featured musician, and music trivia. It also allows you to submit a question on any music artist you are interested in.

This is a great website for kindergarten through fourth grade. Students use "magnetic" tiles to create sentences, stories or poems. Depending on what type of project the student chooses, he/she either drags words or phrases to the storyboard. This website also gives students practice on clicking and dragging with the mouse

A fun site. . . I can see using this with my students to find their sight words and to create simple sentences!

I think it's a very fun site. I would like to have my 7th grade students write a poem about on-line safety... I think we will be utilizing this site. Thanks Laurie!

With Smartmusic software, I can create and send customized assignments to my students' home computer. Students play or sing exercises into a microphone and receive instant feedback on note and rhythm reading accuracy! Because it is a lot like Guitar Hero, kids find it extremely fun and are motivated to practice and improve! The software also allows students to record and listen to themselves. I can track students' progress, grade assignments and compile portfolios of student work with the software.

Students really do enjoy using Glogster. I do think that it is gret that the students have so many different ways in which to show their knowledge and mastery of the material. It also does give them the opportunity to use some cretivity when designing them.

A fun Thanksgiving project you can make out of sweets.

This website is an elementary/middle school music teacher's dream! The 130 quizzes and games on music theory, composers and the piano will engage and motivate students! The games have colorful graphics, fun sound effects, and provide students with instant feedback! Many of the games give individual student recognition when completed by allowing them to type their name to a printable award certificate.

Within the Child Development Unit, we discuss babysitting and list fun, educational activities that they can do with children when they are caring for them. Go under adventure in the interests coloumn; this is a good website For fun activities for kids.

This site was created by GE to teach students about the science, technology, math, and history of light. This would work very well in our science unit about heat and light. There are areas that students can read about light, hands on activities, and experiments. For my second graders, many of the readings would need to be done together, but there are also some interactive timelines and animations that students could check out on their own. The hands on activities and experiments would also be fun to bring in to the classroom, and are probably what I would use the most. The only downfall of this site is that the link to the "school lighting challenge" is currently not working. I'd be interested in checking this out if it gets up and running.

At jiskha.com, a student can get homework help in any subject area and grade level. You can view recent questions that have been asked and either post an answer yourself or view other's answers. For the music section, there were quality, complex questions regarding composers, instruments, styles of music, music history, and more! Students can also chat with live on-line tutors. The site features a homework help reference page which includes links to dictionaries, encyclopedias, maps, almanacs, etc. I think it might be a fun assignment to have my students develop a question regarding a topic we are studying, post-it, and report back to the class with answers they received.

Looking for a synonym to jazz up a piece of writing? You, and students, can use visual thesaurus to find that word. The "visual" part of this online thesaurus stems from the web of words that results from a search. For example, if I was looking for a synonym for cool, I'd type the word in the search bar, and a web would be created with "cool" in the center. Stemming off the center is a color coded assortment of alternatives for "cool", and the colors are based on the meaning of "cool". What a fast and fun way to search for words!

What I really enjoyed about this website was the opportunity for incidental learning -- unexpected learning on the way. As I child, I always enjoyed the encyclopedia. As I paged to my favorite section "dogs" I would find other articles I never would searched before. With this visual thesaurus, the user can search for one word and find herself learning others.

Middle schoolers love this! This site is very fun, obviously engaging for students, and could be used for varying purposes. Students can create their own comics, using as many or as little words as they like, and individualize their projects setting the scene and characters.

I love Legos! This is a really cool site. I will have to use it in an upcoming reading project.

This is more than just building with Legos on the computer. This is placing them in a story-board and coming up with a comic book/story with the Legos. What a creative way to use Legos without actually having them in your hands!

This site has many ideas for teachers teaching anything with music. It has lesson ideas, charts, and fun activities for students to do while learning about music.

I like that this site regularly features different composers. I also found some valuable info. on this site (rhyming dictionary) that I will use in my upcoming composition unit!

The Fact Monster website provides elementary students with an online almanac. It contains similar resources found on the Info Please website, but Fact Monster is more suitable for elementary students. The site provides fun, engaging games and quizzes as well.

I am excited to try this with my students. I sometimes struggle to find informative sites that are kid friendly so this will be a great additon to the worldbook online.

The games on this site will help students build their multiplication skills, and they will have a blast as they learn. Give the Diaper Derby game a try!

I have to say, I really enjoyed the Diaper Derby :) What I liked about this site is it gives the teacher ideas of ways to teach the multiplication facts as well as games for students to practice their facts. You can also customize many things to practice certain levels of facts. I also noticed that the site has ideas for additional games you can play with the entire class or small groups!

I've actually been looking for a website like this to help my 8 year old learn her math facts in a fun way. This is perfect! So many different options, too, which is great. Thanks Sarah!
