    -Stock market crashed in October of 1929
    -Mexicans and blacks were hit the hardest (40-50% of black workers were unemployed by 1932, in Chicago)
    -Unemployment for all races increased by 607%
    -Many Americans joined labor unions (almost 9 million)
    -FDR helped unions and collective bargaining with the Wagner Act
