Yes, I know you've probably used sporcle as a distraction FROM homework, but I'm posting it because I think it can also be a great resource FOR teachers to use with kids to get them to learn in a fun way. The site is filled with quizzes on pretty much every subject possible. I think the sections on geography, literature, and language could be useful. For example, there are timed country and capital quizzes that are great study tools.

This is a site similar to sparknotes. It has summaries, analysis, character lists, and quizzes. What I liked about this site is the Why Should I Care section they have for every book that describes why they are studying this book in a witty way. If used as a tool and not a substitution for reading the book i think it is a great asset for teachers and students. 

This resource is helpful because it offers beneficial quizzes that can help students improve their understanding of certain aspects of grammar. The Extra Practice Tab offers additional information on certain subjects and extended practice. This website also offers grammar related games for students to practice their grammar with.

This site is a favorite of mine. You can create a profile and log all the books you have read, are reading, or want to read as well as give them ratings. For English teachers it is a great resource because it provides thousands of reviews on books you might be interested in teaching. It also has lists of books such as "new authors to watch for", "best young adult books", and of course the humorous ones such as "sexiest immortal males of all" might also give you a good laugh.
