I think that even though we are planning to be english teachers it is still so important to stay up-to-date with current political issues and if possible link them to the materials we study in class.

This blog offers a variety of insights from the point of view of a current educator. I found her writing style to be entertaining yet at the same time intensely thought provoking. Her site also provides links to educational resources!

References to Greek mythology are all over English literature, and this is a good resources to get the stories/references about goddesses from many different cultures, not just Grecian. It has an easy to use alphabetical list so it's a one stop shop for goddess information and those ever elusive allusions.

This site is a favorite of mine. You can create a profile and log all the books you have read, are reading, or want to read as well as give them ratings. For English teachers it is a great resource because it provides thousands of reviews on books you might be interested in teaching. It also has lists of books such as "new authors to watch for", "best young adult books", and of course the humorous ones such as "sexiest immortal males of all" might also give you a good laugh. There is also trivia, quizzes, information on authors and more...

This website is pretty useful. It is similar to Spark Notes in some regards, but it is great for broad ideas and concepts that may seem confusing, like those discussed in English, such as different literary genres and what they encompass. The site allows for the reader/student to get an easy and strong foot hold in the concept they are exploring.

Once in the schools, many English teachers will have to teach other related subjects such a speech and creative writing. This site offers a lot of great prompts to get students to start thinking.

This site has a very wide selection of different lesson plans for different authors. It is a good resource for teachers to find accompanying course work or helpful study tips for common high school English classes.

This site contains a lot of information on just about every aspect of teaching English. All of the various areas broken down, with lesson plan, project and unit ideas on poetry, literature, writing, reading, vocab, grammar, esl, etc.

This site is a resource for teachers, students, and parents. It points the viewer in the right direction when looking for any piece of literature. It is helpful because sometimes more obscure pieces have very limited information and this site has a variety of ways to access more.
