3 reasons to decree mobile learning by 2015 - 1 views

  •
What would happen if you decreed (or maybe strongly suggested - we don't really decree in higher ed), that by 2015 that mobile will be the primary platform that our students will interact with digital curriculum and learning platforms.

If you don't want to bore your students … don't be boring! : ) - 0 views

  •
"I think there is a HUGE disconnect with how things in higher education have always been, and how they need to change today to be relevant. Students don't want to be entertained, they want to be engaged… They need to experience flow. They need to be perplexed."

#Lrnchat Blog - 0 views

  •
"#lrnchat is an online chat over the social messaging service Twitter. #lrnchat is on Thursdays at 8:30-10pm ET/5:30-7pm PT. Participants are people interested in the topic of learning from one another and who want to discuss how to help other people learn in formal, informal, social and mobile ways. This summer we aim to renew our commitment to steer clear of topics that are more "training department" oriented (including topics around LMS and instructional design) and focus this time on rather on how people learn, what they learn, and what we're learning."

Teens: What Happens On Facebook Doesn't Stay On Facebook - AllFacebook - 1 views

  •
"Despite statistics showing that more college admissions officers, as well as hiring managers, check applicants' Facebook pages, many teenagers are still lax about social media security, continuing to post content that is detrimental to their online reputation. Michael P. Grace, president and CEO of Virallock, spoke with AllFacebook about the mistakes that high school and college students are making on Facebook and how they can clean up their acts for a better future."
  •
"Instead of using Facebook primarily as a communication device with friends (there's Facebook messages for that purpose), Grace said students should use their profiles as secondary resumés. If a student is applying to a college and their application shows that they were involved in, say, Model U.N. or the choir, they should have some kind of evidence of their activities. Likewise, if volunteer work is mentioned, teens should make sure they have photos of that on their Facebook page. When a college admissions officer or a hiring manager sees a prospect's Facebook page, they want to see evidence of positivity and accomplishments. Grace says taking this kind of approach can help young people stand out from their peers."

The Journalist and the Troll: Benjamin Wey Spent Two Years Trying to Destroy Me Online - 0 views

  •
"In addition to all the lies, the story was laced with creepy sexual imagery: I'd had my "panties ripped off" and was like "a dog wagging her tail trying to attract a mating partner." I felt overwhelmed; it was as if something heavy were pressing into my forehead. I wanted to fight back, and I also wanted to hide. I haven't been able to do either."

Free open textbooks gain footing at some colleges - CNN.com - 0 views

  •
"It raises the question of which is better for students: an imperfect textbook or no textbook at all? To address this concern, publishers of open textbooks are beefing up academic oversight to offer peer-reviewed material that they say is comparable to proprietary textbooks. And, they're finding an audience."

Connected Teaching and Learning - Using online delivery and social media for more engag... - 1 views

  •
"Integrating a complex set of technological tools in delivering a class results in "digital pain" as the professor talks, brings up video, monitors live chat, and performs a number of other tasks simultaneously, often without support. Responding to technical problems experienced by individual students is not possible in real time during the classes. Dr. Matrix does provide extensive one-on-one technical support before and after classes."
