Electric Vehicle Drive Motor Sales Will Reach 3.7 Million Units by 2020 - 0 views

  • Electric motors and their controllers are an important but often secondary consideration in the cost premium of electric vehicles (EVs).  Today, new electric motor technologies are being developed by many automakers and their supplier partners in an effort to gain advantages in performance and efficiency, just as they have done for years with their internal combustion engines.  According to a new report from Navigant Research, unit sales of electric drive motors will reach 3.7 million by 2020, growing from 1.5 million in 2013.

Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Market to Surpass $3.8 Billion by 2020 - 0 views

  • The key short-term challenge for commercial EVSE sales is to devise viable business models.  Currently, it seems likely that both “all-you-can-eat” subscription plans and single price per charge models will be used in the near future.  Pike Research’s analysis indicates that the industry seems to be converging around a very low price point for per-charge costs that affords little cushion for the host site to make money.  According to the report, the subscription model appears to hold the most promise as a way to generate revenue from public charging systems at a price that will be acceptable to drivers.

Variable Utility Plans for Electric Vehicle Drivers - 0 views

  • Most importantly, PEVs create a set of unknowns about electricity consumption and infrastructure impacts for utilities, in addition to a temptation to respond to anticipated problems that do not necessarily pose actual risks to the grid or to a utility’s business process.

China - February automobile production up 28.5% y-o-y - 0 views

  •
Chinese motor vehicle production increased to 1.6M units in February, up 23.8% on January levels and 28.5% y-o-y. The production levels of passenger vehicles showed the most impressive y-o-y growth at 31.3%. Nonetheless, combined automobile production in the first two months of this year was down 4.9% y-o-y. The automotive industry is a major end use sector for copper demand, with passenger vehicles utilising around 20kg per car.

Electromobility is one of Leoni's future growth drivers - 0 views

  • The focus is on high-voltage cables and cable harnesses for high power transmission. These special products are needed because, in cars and commercial vehicles with electric, hybrid or fuel cell drive, 12 volts no longer prevail on their own as they do in conventional vehicles with combustion engines. Instead, electrified powertrains involve voltages up to 1000, which require the cables and components to have special properties with respect to conductivity, mechanical flexibility, thermal capacity and safety

China - Autos: production rises by 4.5% m-o-m and sales by 8.4% m-o-m in August - 0 views

  •
The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers reported an acceleration in automotive sales and production on both a sequential and y-o-y basis in August. Auto output rose by 4.5% m-o-m and 7.8% y-o-y and sales rose by 8.4% m-o-m and by 8.3% y-o-y in August. The industry's performance in August compared to last year has resulted in an improvement in the year-to-date production figure, which now stands at 12.47M units, up by 5.2% y-o-y. Production of passenger vehicles has outperformed those of commercial vehicles, up by 8.7% y-t-d (reaching 10.0M units) and down by 7.2% y-t-d (reaching 2.5M units), respectively.

Automotive coasting for fuel efficiency - 0 views

  • With its new start-stop coasting function, Bosch enables drivers of vehicles with combustion engines to travel in zero-emission, noise-free, and low-resistance mode over large parts of their journey. This innovative technology stops the engine when the vehicle is in motion, so that it does not consume any fuel. Whenever the vehicle can maintain its speed simply by rolling – for instance on a gentle incline – the engine is stopped. As soon as the driver touches the gas or brake pedal, the engine starts up again.

German eMobility - 1 views

  •
"Four years ago, the German government pledged the idea of bringing one million electric vehicles (EV) to the German roads by the year 2020. Today, approx. just 24.000 electric cars cruise the streets of Germany - a far cry from the ambitious goal once set. The published progress report of the German National Platform for Electric Mobility (NPE) was supposed to be a milestone."
