Superconduciting electronics in quantum computing - 0 views

  • No-one was willing to build the machine, so we decided to do it ourselves. We built our own fabrication facility - a superconducting electronics foundry - to produce the processors required to use quantum effects to compute.

Split personality of superconductor material offers possibilities for quantum computing... - 0 views

  • The new material is a crystal that has been described as being part superconductor and part metal, named a "topological superconductor" by scientists at Princeton University.  When at very low temperatures the crystal’s interior conducts electricity with no resistance as a normal superconductor would.  However the surface is metallic, and therefore has resistance to any current carried.

The sun will never set for the petro-economies, just covered by clouds - 0 views

  •
The falling oil prices may have varied effects on the investment strategies adopted by the petro-states and also on the various markets being analyzed in this study. The level of petrodollar investments is bound to increase. However, if the trend of falling oil prices continue, the quantum of investments made is also likely to fall. On the whole, dramatic growth is expected in the level of domestic investments in 2009. However, international investments are likely to continue growing in a few key sectors of the economy. The following are the various international sectors that can be expected to attract maximum petrodollar investments in 2009 * Real estate * Healthcare * Industrial The following are the various domestic sectors that can be expected to attract maximum petrodollar investments in 2009 * Banking and financial services * Aerospace and defense * Industrial * Education

Outotec technology for First Quantum nickel, copper, cobalt and gold projects - 0 views

  • Outotec has agreed with the First Quantum Minerals Limited Projects Office based in Perth, Australia, for the delivery of flotation, thickening and automation technologies for several of its operations around the world. The total value of the contracts exceeds EUR 20 million. These orders include the delivery of 14 units of Outotec TankCell® 300 and 54 smaller TankCell® units for nickel and copper concentrate production for the Kevitsa project, located in northern Finland. This flotation technology delivery complements the earlier agreed supply of Outotec® grinding mills for the same project.

Miners face challenge tapping copper opportunities - 0 views

  •
"The giant Chilean Escondida mine produces more copper than anywhere on earth. Some 1.2m tonnes emerge from the BHP Billiton-run facility each year. For the largest miners, Escondida also serves as a key measure for world copper output. To meet global demand over the next decade, the industry "will have to add the equivalent of a new Escondida every 15 months", says Jean-Sebastien Jacques, head of copper at Rio Tinto, which owns a minority stake in the mine. First Quantum, a mid-tier copper miner, says that if China, India and Brazil were to reach EU levels of copper use by 2020, it would imply nine new Escondidas."

Great catch. Copper is not only the best conductor material, it might also provide superconductors :-).
