Yangzhou Baosheng Copper Industry, a large Chinese manufacturer of wire and cable, announced on 12th December that it had placed an order with Germany's SMS Meer for a CONTIROD system to be installed at its plant in Baoying, Jiangsu province. The new system, which has a capacity of 48t/h, will come into action in 2014 and will enable the company to expand its range of products.

According to an annual survey from Antaike, operating rates at Chinese copper fabricators were on average 2.66 percentage points lower in 2012 than in 2011. The sector that saw the largest slow down in utilisation was the copper tube sector, down 7.27 percentage points in 2012, due to low operating rates in air conditioner sector denting the demand for copper tube in China. Wire manufacturers and foil manufacturers were reported to have fared better in 2012, with utilisation rates rising modestly.

Henan-based Golden Dragon Precise Copper Tube (Henan Golden Dragon), the world's largest manufacturer of commercial copper tube, will open a new 30,000t/y high precision copper tube factory in July 2013. Henan Golden Dragon begun production of the facility in May 2012 and have invested a total of RMB 380M (USD60.5M). The factory will produce high precision copper tube.

Milan, 18 March 2014. Today in Shanghai, a joint venture between KME Ag and the Chinese company Golden Dragon Precise Copper Tube Group Inc. has been finalized. The project foresees the construction of a manufacturing plant for "connectors" rolled products in the province of Henan.

"China-based copper tube producer Hailiang Co is in discussions to take over its larger rival, Henan-based Golden Dragon, a source at Hailiang confirmed to Metal Bulletin, in a move that would consolidate more production in the hands of one company. "

It was reported that Golden Dragon Precise Copper Tube Group is considering establishing a plant in the US. The three candidate locations are Thomasville, Little Rock and Dallas. Golden Dragon's copper tube products will serve the HVACR industry. This prospect comes further to the antidumping duties on copper tube imports from China and Mexico. Golden Dragon had established a tube factory in Mexico and its shipments to the US have been impacted due to the duties.

It was reported that US State authorities have signed an agreement with China headquartered Golden Dragon Precise Copper Tube Group Inc. for the construction of a new copper tube plant in Wilcox County, Alabama. Development of the facility will involve an investment of US$100M, however, the production capacity of the operation is not yet known. This follows September news that the company had not broken ground at its proposed US$100M, 45,000t/y copper pipe and tube project in neighbouring Clarke County, Alabama. The delay was attributed to a larger than originally anticipated site requirement, leading to the development of new plans to relocate the facility. Production will supply the US heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning sector.

China's Golden Dragon Precise Copper Tube Group Inc., which is 25%-owned by three foreign companies including Standard Chartered PLC ( STAN.LN), plans to raise CNY1.5 billion ($214.3 million) through a Shanghai listing, a company executive said Tuesday.

China headquartered, Golden Dragon Precise Copper Tube Group Inc. has not yet broken ground at its proposed USD$100M copper pipe and tube plant in Thomasville, Alabama. The company was expected to begin construction of its first U.S. semis fabricating operation between July and August. The facility is planned to supply 100Mlbs/y of products to the heating, ventilation and air conditioning sector.

Golden Dragon, based in China's Hunan province, opened a new copper tube plant in the city of Monclova, northern Mexico. The investment of the project amounted to US$100 million and represents the biggest Chinese investment ever made in Mexico. The plant covers 200,000m2 and will employ 900 staff. Currently, annual output capacity is 60,000t of copper tube for air conditioners but the plan is to raise that to 120,000t. The new project will benefit from low industrial costs and a competitive exchange rate; it aims to supply the North American and European markets.

It was reported that the value of output at Canghuan Copper Products Co. Ltd. Reached RMB2.9B in 2011. This represents growth of 32% y-o-y. The company, which is owned by the Golden Dragon Group, produces high precision tubes for air conditioning, oxygen-free copper tubes for the solar power sector, as well as microelectronic components anf radio-frequency cables. In January Canghuan Copper began an expansion project which will increase its production capacity from 5,000t/y to 100,000t/y.

Luvata Oy, Espoo, Finland, formerly Outokumpu Copper Products Oy, has stated that its $40 million copper tube mill in Guadalupe, Mexico will begin production on schedule this September. 50% of the total plant capacity will be reached with one line during September with the second line coming on line by the end of quarter four. Once full production is reached, the plant is expected to add 50,000 tons a year to Luvata's copper tube capacity in N.America. Luvata is moving ahead with its plans for this facility despite a slowdown in the North American HVAC market. The company remains cautiously optimistic about the future, stating, "based on feedback from clients, the U.S. housing market will begin to turn around by the second half of 2009 or in 2010." Strong demand in China, where Luvata has also built plants, as well as from other developing countries has helped maintain Luvata's positive outlook for the viability of the plant. The plant will face stiff competition. Henan Golden Dragon is also building a US$80M copper commercial tube mill in Coahuila, Mexico, and Mexico's IUSA has also announced plans to increase commercial tube production. In the USA, Kobe Wieland Copper Products LLC is also undertaking a US$71M upgrade of its North Carolina copper commercial tube mill.
