Report: Travel demand stays steady, new tech provides efficiencies - 0 views

  •
CONSUMERS ARE EXPECTED to reprioritize travel in 2024, albeit with demand fluctuations for various products and amenities in 2024, according to Deloitte's 2024 Travel Outlook. The report says hospitality providers need to enhance the experiences they offer or risk losing travelers' attention and Those adept at applying technology to create personalized and flexible services will do better than others this year. The pent-up demand seen following the pandemic that led to travel surges in the prior two years is dwindling, the report said. It's being replaced, however, by a steady increase in traveling for experiences, aided in some cases by the increased prevalence of remote working, meaning travel remains a priority for many consumers. An economic downturn could dampen that enthusiasm, according to the Travel Outlook. However, technology can help provide the flexibility to offer affordable, personalized packages that may compensate for consumers' responding parsimony.

2024 Business Travel Spending to Hit $1.48 Trillion - Promising Growth Ahead - 0 views

  •
GLOBAL BUSINESS TRAVEL spending is forecast to reach $1.48 trillion by the end of 2024, surpassing the previous record of $1.43 trillion in 2019, according to a recent study by the Global Business Travel Association. Spending is projected to exceed $2 trillion by 2028, indicating strong growth for the business travel sector. The 2024 GBTA Business Travel Index Outlook, supported by Visa, found that economic stability and lingering pent-up demand are driving growth, reassuring CEOs and CFOs to send their teams back on the road for business meetings. "We are witnessing the expected rebound in the sector, reflecting the resilience and adaptability of businesses and the value of business travel worldwide," said Suzanne Neufang, GBTA's CEO. "With projected spending expected to continue to increase through 2028, the future of business travel looks promising. However, we must remain vigilant and adaptive to potential headwinds in this period of stabilization, as factors such as changing economic conditions, technological advancements and sustainability developments will also shape the sector ahead."

80% of U.S. Travelers Prefer Automated Hotel Tech: Survey - 0 views

  •
APPROXIMATELY THREE OUT of four travelers agree that Americans are prioritizing travel more in 2024 and prefer a digital, self-service experience for their hotel stays, according to a recent survey by Mews, a hospitality cloud provider. Nearly 80 percent of U.S. travelers favor hotels with fully automated front desks or self-service kiosks, and more than 40 percent prefer checking in via a hotel's website, app, or digital kiosk. "Trends in hospitality are ever-changing but we're seeing indicators that people are prioritizing travel again," said Richard Valtr, Mews's founder. "While we're seeing some softness in mid-market and select service hotels, the luxury sector seems resilient. Guests visiting luxury properties are spending more on bucket list trips and staying for longer." The poll of 2,000 people, evenly split between travelers and hotel workers, revealed that hotel workers anticipate an increase in guest use of technology during travel. A quarter of them expect guests to check in more frequently via hotel websites, apps, or digital kiosks compared to previous years.

USTA Report 2024 | June Travel Prices Drop for Second Month: Boosting Tourism Demand - 0 views

  •
PRICES FOR TRAVEL goods and services decreased by 1.4 percent in June for the second consecutive month, outpacing the overall economy's 0.1 percent decline, according to the latest Consumer Price Index data from the U.S. Travel Association. The Travel Price Index indicated that lower hotel, airline, and gas prices were the primary contributors to the sector's significant price reduction. In contrast, the broader economy experienced its first monthly price decline since 2020, USTA said in a statement. "Now is the time for the travel industry to boost volume," said Geoff Freeman, USTA's president and CEO. "We've already seen travelers take advantage, with eight of the 10 busiest days in TSA's history occurring in 2024. It's essential that the industry is equipped with the right funding, resources and technology - coupled with sustained government focus - to meet an increase in demand."

Only 15.6% of B2B Travel Tech Leaders Are Women - Gender Gap Study - 0 views

  •
ONLY 15.6 PERCENT of leaders in the B2B travel technology space are women, according to Belvera Partners. Their analysis of top CEOs and prominent individuals in the industry revealed this gender disparity. The research, conducted in July for the Belvera B2B Travel Tech Map to select companies and individuals using LinkedIn profiles to determine gender, found that, by business vertical, lobby groups had the highest percentage of female leaders at 36 percent. Car rental had the lowest at 10 percent. In a 2021 analysis of its smaller tech map, Belvera found that 12.4 percent of CEOs were female, showing the current increase to 15.6 percent as marginal progress. Belera Partners' emphasized that this is not a direct comparison, as the current map is larger, and some companies from the previous map have been removed due to changes in the travel tech landscape, including closures and mergers. The B2B Travel Tech Map covers sectors like aviation tech, accommodation distribution, TMCs, car rental tech, in-destination experiences, and short-term rentals, featuring over 400 entries. It is updated almost monthly.

USTA: U.S. air travel unprepared for World Cup, Olympics - Asian Hospitality - 0 views

  •
THE U.S. IS unprepared for the air travel demands of the 2026 World Cup and 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, according to the U.S. Travel Association's Commission on Seamless and Secure Travel. Without immediate action, the outdated system will struggle with increased visitors amid concerns over visas, aging infrastructure and inadequate security technology. The USTA-commissioned report estimates the 2026 World Cup, 2028 Olympics and Paralympics, 2025 Ryder Cup and the U.S.'s 250th birthday celebrations could draw 40 million visitors and generate $95 billion in economic activity. "The next several years will bring unprecedented travel demand that our systems are not prepared to handle," said Geoff Freeman, USTA's president and CEO. "Washington has a small window to fix major travel pain points and unlock a $100 billion economic opportunity-but it will require a level of urgency that has been missing in recent years."
