TownePlace Suites Eugene is now open in Eugene, Oregon. The hotel is owned by BHG Hospitality, based in Georgia, and led by Buggsi Patel, with operation by InterMountain Management from Louisiana. "As an Oregon business owner, we are proud to expand our portfolio in Eugene, home to the University of Oregon and the Oregon Ducks, the birthplace of Nike and a perfect base to explore the great outdoors," said Patel. "We are excited to join the Eugene business community by providing a high-quality hotel with excellent customer service for visitors to the area." The hotel offers studio and one-bedroom suites with kitchens, a fitness center, and is near locations like the University of Oregon and Autzen Stadium. BHG focuses on the Pacific Northwest, while InterMountain has managed more than 200 properties across the U.S. with about 30 more in development.

EVERGREEN HOSPITALITY DEVELOPMENT Group has selected the third-party management company Resolute Road Hospitality to oversee two of its Oregon hotel properties. These are the Hampton Inn & Suites Portland Tigard in Tigard and the Hampton Inn & Suites Sherwood Portland in Sherwood. The Hampton Inn & Suites Portland Tigard offers 152 rooms between Beaverton, Lake Oswego and downtown Portland. This property is close to downtown Portland, the Oregon Zoo and Washington Square shopping mall. The 73-room Hampton Inn & Suites Sherwood Portland provides lodging in Oregon's wine country. It's close to Sherwood Market Center, Stella Olsen Memorial Park, and various wineries including Ponzi Vineyards, Tualatin River and the National Wildlife Refuge.

SALEM, OREGON, RECENTLY changed its plan to use transient lodging tax funds for library funding gaps. AAHOA and the Oregon Restaurant & Lodging Association have been closely monitoring the municipality's attempts to divert the protected revenue from its intended purpose, promoting tourism. Instead, the city will use funds from the American Rescue Plan Act. Hotel taxes diverted from tourism could diminish funding for year-round visitor attraction efforts, AAHOA said in a statement. "AAHOA and ORLA were proactive in ensuring appropriate use of the transient lodging tax in the city of Salem," said Taran Patel, AAHOA's Northwest regional director. "This is a great example of the importance of AAHOA members being active in advocacy at the local levels of government."

A-1 HOSPITALITY GROUP is working with Delta Inn Hotel Group to add its leadership team and three Portland, Oregon, airport hotels to its portfolio. The deal will expand A-1's presence in the Greater Portland area to 20 hotels and 645 keys across five states, the companies said in a joint statement. The hotels include the 150-key Courtyard, 121-key Hilton Garden Inn and the 104-key Fairfield Inn & Suites at Portland Airport. A-1 Hospitality, a family-owned hotel management and development company based in Kennewick, Washington, is led by President Vijay Patel and Managing Principal Taran Patel. Delta Inn, a family-owned hotel portfolio in Portland, Oregon, is led by CEO Scott Kim.

FOUR PROPERTIES JOINED the hihotels by Hospitality International portfolio during the first quarter. The new additions are in Maryland, Oregon and Texas and are all conversions. The four hotels signed or activated are: A former Econo Lodge turned Red Carpet Inn in College Park, Maryland, signed. A former Rodeway Inn turned Scottish Inns in Ashland, Oregon, signed and activated. A former Americas Best Value Inn turned Scottish Inns in DeSoto, Texas, activated. A former Econo Lodge turned Scottish Inns & Suites in Spring, Texas, signed. The five hihotels brands include Red Carpet Inn, Scottish Inns, Master Hosts Inns, Downtowner Inns and Passport Inn. Hospitality International said the brands' franchising model includes customized support, advanced technology and overall value.

PEACHTREE HOTEL GROUP added seven hotels to its portfolio this week for $135 million. Three of the hotels also are part of Peachtree's third investment partnerships with San Mateo, California-based Verakin Capital led by partners Rupesh and Bimal Patel and Hiten Suraj. The new acquisitions include 829 rooms and are in five different states, according to Peachtree and its management division Peachtree Hospitality Management, which will operate all seven hotels. The new hotels are: The dual-brand Hilton Garden Inn Phoenix Tempe, University Research Park, 120 rooms, and Home2 Suites by Hilton Phoenix Tempe, University Research Park, 108 rooms, in Tempe, Arizona, which were built in 2017. Aloft Hillsboro-Beaverton in Hillsboro, Oregon, 137 rooms, built in 2017. Hilton Garden Inn Casper, 121 rooms in Casper, Wyoming, built in 2008. Home2 Suites by Hilton Eugene Downtown University Area, in Eugene, Oregon, 120 rooms, built in 2016. Home2 Suites by Hilton Pittsburgh/McCandless in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 119 rooms, built in 2013. Hilton Garden Inn West Lafayette Wabash Landing in West Lafayette, Indiana, 104 rooms, built in 2003.

THE U.S. SUPREME Court overturned a lower court ruling that found Grants Pass, Oregon's ban on outdoor sleeping on public lands violated the constitution's prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment. AAHOA expressed concerns over the ruling in the case that could push the homeless population into hotels. Previously, the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court held that enforcing city ordinances banning outdoor sleeping did violate the Eighth Amendment's Cruel and Unusual Punishments Clause "whenever the number of homeless individuals in a jurisdiction exceeds the number of 'practically available' shelter beds," according to the Supreme Court ruling. This led to several lawsuits against cities filed by homeless advocates, including one against Grants Pass that led a district court to file an injunction prohibiting the city from enforcing the ordinance. The Supreme Court overturned the district court's holding, saying the city's punishments for violations, including fines in first offenses and imprisonment for multiple violations, did not meet the Eighth Amendment's definitions of cruel and unusual. That ruling has an immediate impact on cities and counties in Oregon and other Western states, according to Oregon media.

The Courtyard by Marriott Portland East opens Oct. 21 in Portland, Oregon. It is owned by Lodging Management Northwest LLC led by Jatin Patel as principal. The 91-room hotel is managed by InnVentures LLC of Tukwila, Washington. It is near Mt. Hood Skibowl, Timberline Lodge, McMenamins Edgefield, Multnomah Falls and Pioneer Place. Amenities include an indoor swimming pool, fitness center, fire pit and 702 square feet of meeting space. Courtyard's new room design includes a luggage drop for storing bags and the "Tech Drop" ledge provides a place for guests to plug personal devices. The rooms also feature hybrid zones for working, sleeping and getting ready.

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP nominated former Oregon Republican congresswoman Lori Chavez-DeRemer to lead the Department of Labor, with former EEOC commissioner Keith Sonderling chosen as deputy secretary. The American Hotel & Lodging Association has called on the Senate to swiftly confirm both nominees. "Keith will work with our nominee for Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer, to put our country and workers first," Trump announced on Truth Social. Trump highlighted Sonderling's labor and employment experience, noting his roles as EEOC vice-chairman and acting administrator of the DOL's Wage and Hour Division during Trump's first term. If confirmed, Sonderling would oversee the DOL's 15,000 employees and daily operations. Sonderling thanked Trump for the nomination on LinkedIn.
