Beth Barris is the new executive vice president of sales and marketing for ELEVAT3, a revenue management consultancy led by Nilesh Patel as founder and partner. The company recently launched a new sales and marketing division to offer tailored branding solutions for hoteliers. Before joining ELEVAT3, Barris was chief sales officer at Barris Hospitality Consultancy, where she worked with hotel sales and marketing teams, owners and management companies to increase sales revenues and market share. She previously held various roles at Marshall Hotels & Resorts, including executive vice president of sales and marketing. The company combined its revenue management and sales and marketing divisions to provide a collaborative approach, ELEVAT3 said in a statement. The sales and marketing team provides services from full sales to market-plan development and prospecting, enhancing revenue management capabilities, the statement said. While clients can choose either service, both teams are designed to work together for branded and independent hotels.

THE HOSPITALITY SALES and Marketing Association International Global recently launched its Certified Hotel Sales Leader certification program, focusing on current sales and commercial principles, practices, and strategies. The certification emphasizes hospitality sales leaders' abilities in team leadership, commercial acumen, and implementing effective hotel sales practices to boost revenue, among other key skills, HSMAI said in a statement. "We are very excited to add the CHSL certification to HSMAI's distinguished family of commercial certifications, including the CRME, CHDM, CRMA and CHBA," said Robert Gilbert, HSMAI's president and CEO. "This new certification underscores our commitment to empowering hotel sales professionals with the vital skills and recognition they need to excel as successful commercial leaders."

HOSPITALITY RESEARCH FIRM Knowland recently launched the Knowland Certification Program. The program offers three certification credentials aimed at enabling hotel sales professionals to enhance their skills, elevate their professional profiles and demonstrate proficiency in management, Knowland said in a statement. "Today's data-driven solutions require hoteliers and software companies to work together to ensure software investments are being used to their fullest potential," said Jessica Carey, VP customer operations, Knowland. "Knowland is a vital sales skill and a must-have expertise for today's sales teams; therefore, having a certification program advances our efforts to demonstrate that sales teams are comfortable and knowledgeable in all aspects of the platform and can prove that knowledge." Sales professionals who come to the table with verifiable experience can advance their careers by documenting their skills and efficiently communicating that value to current or potential employers, Knowland said. The program provides three credential levels: Certified Knowland Sales Leader Professional, Certified Knowland Power User Professional and Certified Knowland Revenue Leader Professional (launching in 2024).

REMOTE SALES AND training appear to be surging in popularity among hotels, according to training consulting firm Gillis Sales. The firm reported $23 million in revenue from hospitality clients in 2021 and a 40 percent since the beginning of the pandemic. The latest figures indicate that hotels are seeing the benefits of investing in sales to increase profitability as travel resumes, said Tammy Gillis, CEO of Gillis Sales. Gillis foresees an increase in business as hoteliers turn to remote sales solutions to find and keep qualified salespeople. Market trends suggest that leisure and corporate travel are increasing while labor shortage continues, according to the company's statement.

Mark Sergot is InterContinental Hotels Group's new vice president for global sales operations and enablement. Previously he was chief sales officer for Associated Luxury Hotels International. Sergot spent 16 years at FRHI Hotels & Resorts, the parent company of the Fairmont, Raffles & Swissotel brands. He became FRHI's senior vice president for its global sales organization. He will be based on the company's Americas headquarters in Atlanta and report to global sales Vice President Derek DeCross.

"This new navigation is a direct response to these challenges. It is about empowering our users to focus on what matters most: building relationships and driving revenue. By quickly delivering the right information to their fingertips, we free them up for more productive selling time." The horizontal navigation bar features a predictable layout designed to be easier for users to find information quickly. By displaying menu items by category, such as accounts and events, competition, and markets, Knowland enables users to explore various features and functionalities.

SONESTA INTERNATIONAL HOTELS will franchise 114 hotels it currently manages, following their sale by Service Properties Trust or SVC. The Massachusetts-based REIT plans to sell 14,925 keys across 28 states for $850 million in 2025 to repay debt. The trust plans to sell 31 Sonesta Select, 44 Sonesta ES Suites and 39 Sonesta Simply Suites, which will convert from Sonesta-managed to franchised properties upon sale. Following the deal, Sonesta will manage 39 full-service, 14 extended-stay and six select-service hotels owned by SVC, which will retain a 34 percent stake in Sonesta, SVC said in a statement. "Given the slow recovery of our hotel portfolio, along with our capital improvement program and deteriorating leverage metrics, we believe it is prudent to reduce the distribution to increase SVC's liquidity and enhance financial flexibility," said Todd Hargreaves, SVC's president and chief investment officer. "The reduction from the previous level will preserve about $127 million in liquidity annually. We also plan to sell 114 hotels to generate additional liquidity and focus the Sonesta portfolio on full-service and select focused-service hotels. These sales are expected to reduce capital expenditures and leverage, improve portfolio performance, and position the portfolio for the long term."

According to AAHOA, the AAHOACON23 Trade Show was sold out, and a wait list was created - the first time ever in AAHOA history. The event also generated a very strong number of first-time exhibitors, 167, which is the second-largest number of first-time exhibitors in AAHOA history, AAHOA said. "The exhibit sales team achieved a new record in exhibit booth sales for AAHOACON24. A total of 170 exhibitors have rebooked and will return for AAHOACON24 in Orlando next year. This number represents more than 40 percent of the show floor space and 100 percent of all exhibiting hotel brands rebooked for AAHOACON24," the statement added. WYNDHAM HOTELS & RESORTS recently named Amit Sripathi as chief development officer, taking over from Chip Ohlsson, who exits the company in June. Sripathi, who previously was Wyndham's senior vice president of strategic and corporate development, will head the company's North American franchise sales team. Before his tenure at Wyndham, he served as vice president of finance and capital markets at RLJ Lodging Trust, and as vice president of global investment banking at Deutsche Bank, Wyndham said in a statement. "Amit's deep experience in mergers and acquisitions and capital markets focused on the real estate and hospitality sectors at Deutsche Bank and RLJ Lodging are instrumental as we increase our focus on growing our midscale-and-above portfolio while reinforcing our leading position in the resilient select-service segments," said Geoff Ballotti, Wyndham's president and CEO. THE KABANI HOTEL Group arranged the off-market sale of a 110-room independent hotel in Miami Springs, Florida, for $16.2 million, or $147,272 per room. The 110-room, six-story property, recently updated, is near Miami International Airport and nine miles from Brickell and Downtown Miami. Kabani, led by Ahmed Kabani as president and CEO, and Luis Garino as a partner, brokered the sale of the 1986-built property on behalf of the seller. Despite the current headwinds in the market, such as elevated interest rates and rising insurance costs, we were able to source an international institutional buyer with the capacity to close the deal on favorable terms and aggressive pricing, Kabani Hotel said in a statement.
