Joel Eisemann is now the senior advisor of real estate investment managing firm Noble Investment Group, the company said in a statement. Previously he was chief development officer for the Americas for IHG Hotels & Resorts. He will work with the Noble team to develop and scale the company's investment strategies as the firm continues the meaningful growth of its platform that serves institutional investors around the world, the statement added. Eisemann was with IHG for the past 11 years and retired last year. Under his leadership, IHG launched five new brands in the Americas and grew to approximately 5,000 hotels open and in the pipeline.

CONTACTLESS CHECK-IN TECHNOLOGY firm Virdee is now integrated with commerce technology platform FreedomPay. The companies will offer a PCI-validated, point-to-point encryption solution with EMV, NFC, currency conversion and real-time data capabilities. The transition will help Virdee to offer end-to-end protection for credit card payments made through FreedomPay's cloud-based payments platform. It also provided FreedomPay compatibility with Virdee's check-in/check-out process with software for identity verification, payment collection, access control and remote support, according to Virdee. "Our integration with Virdee offers our customers expanded options, flexibility and, most important, security," said Chris Kronenthal, president of FreedomPay. "We help streamline and simplify complex payment options, while providing a single flow of data to facilitate consumer insights and engagement for our hotel clients. We're proud to partner with best-in-class solution providers, like Virdee, as we work together to revolutionize hotel operations and guest-facing technologies."

VIRDEE, THE CONTACTLESS check-in technology firm, secured $12.4 million in an oversubscribed Series A funding round led by Moneta Ventures, bringing its total funding to $21 million. These funds will be used to finance research, expand product features, grow the workforce, and strengthen the company's presence in the hospitality sector, the company said. Other participants in the latest fundraising process include Silverton Partners, Koch Real Estate Investments, Alumni Ventures, DJR Advisors, Capital Factory, and strategic partners, Virdee said. This investment follows Series Seed financing led by Silverton Partners in February 2022 and a 2020 angel investment led by Rajiv Trivedi, former brand president for Wyndham Hotels & Resorts Inc.'s La Quinta Inn and chairman of TST Capital.

ATLANTA-BASED FIRM Hospitality Lodging Systems added 73 hotels with 5,967 rooms in 2021. The firm posted a 16 percent increase in hotels and 21 percent hike in rooms compared to last year, a statement said. In 2020, HLS had 63 hotels with 4,929 rooms. HLS said that of these properties, 42 hotels containing 4,201 rooms operate under the Budgetel Inn & Suites brand, 21 with 1,171 rooms operate under the AmeriVu Inn & Suites brand and 10 hotels containing 595 rooms operate as a Haven Hotel. "We are attracting owners who want to keep more of the money they earn, which is especially appealing in today's post-pandemic marketplace when improving ROI is a top priority," said Doug Collins, chairman and CEO of HLS. "Our business model gives owners the freedom to operate their properties in their own way, with some administrative and marketing help but without mandated style changes and amenity upgrades that drive up costs."

REMOTE SALES AND training appear to be surging in popularity among hotels, according to training consulting firm Gillis Sales. The firm reported $23 million in revenue from hospitality clients in 2021 and a 40 percent since the beginning of the pandemic. The latest figures indicate that hotels are seeing the benefits of investing in sales to increase profitability as travel resumes, said Tammy Gillis, CEO of Gillis Sales. Gillis foresees an increase in business as hoteliers turn to remote sales solutions to find and keep qualified salespeople. Market trends suggest that leisure and corporate travel are increasing while labor shortage continues, according to the company's statement.

CHOICE HOTELS INTERNATIONAL has named its eight nominees for the board of directors for Wyndham Hotels & Resorts to be voted on in Wyndham's 2024 shareholder meeting. The nominees, including Jay Shah, executive chairman at Hersha Hospitality Trust, are expected to support Choice's bid to acquire Wyndham despite multiple rejections by the latter. In response, Wyndham said it will evaluate the nominees as part of its due diligence, but it also said the nominees were "hand-picked to push through their offer." Along with Shah, Choice's nominees are: Barbara Bennett, founder and principal executive of business consulting firm Bennett West LLC. GENCOM, A U.S.-BASED real estate investment and development firm, recently acquired The Ritz-Carlton New Orleans and the Courtyard New Orleans French Quarter/Iberville, a 758-key, two-hotel portfolio in New Orleans' French Quarter in Louisiana. The Miami-based firm is led by founder and principal Karim Alibhai. Chicago-based Monroe Capital provided financing for the acquisition, while New York-based Eastdil Secured represented both parties in the transaction, Gencom said in a statement. "We continue to build on our legacy of investing in and enhancing hospitality assets with this acquisition, expanding our presence in this key destination," Alibhai said. "New Orleans is a strong market for luxury hospitality, and we look forward to bringing our expertise to further elevate these properties. We are excited to work with Marriott to ensure The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans, and Courtyard French Quarter continue delivering exceptional guest experiences."

PEACHTREE GROUP, A commercial real estate investment firm with a $6.4 billion portfolio, has secured approximately $660 million in credit investments since Dec. 1, with an additional $350 million expected to close within the next 30 to 45 days. These investments focus on hotels, multifamily, industrial, and student housing, Peachtree said in a statement. "We are witnessing heightened activity in response to the anticipation of sustained elevated interest rates and continued reductions in bank exposure," said Greg Friedman, Peachtree Group's managing principal/CEO. "The pressing need to refinance maturing debt, estimated at $2.8 trillion in U.S. commercial real estate debt by the end of 2028, is a growing concern. Commercial real estate stakeholders are grappling with the challenges of increased capital costs and constrained liquidity, particularly in securing capital for acquisitions, recapitalizations and development initiatives." Peachtree recently closed one of its largest individual credit transactions to date, securing a $102.9 million, three-year loan to recapitalize a 350-room Marriott dual-brand AC Hotel Sunnyvale Moffett Park and TETRA Hotel, Autograph Collection in Sunnyvale, California, the statement added.

A JOINT VENTURE between U.S. investment firms KKR and The Baupost Group recently acquired 33 Marriott International hotels in the United Kingdom from a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. Amante Capital, KKR's European hospitality platform, will manage the joint venture, with the properties remaining Marriott-branded, the companies said in a joint statement. The financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, but a Green Street News report estimated the transaction at around $1.16 billion or £900 million. The portfolio includes 33 full-service Marriott and Delta Hotels by Marriott in London and key regional cities such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds and Liverpool, the statement said. The 6,500-key portfolio, recently refurbished, features amenities for business and leisure, including conference venues, event spaces, golf and recreation facilities. The investment is part of KKR's European real estate strategy.
