  • Not knowing how fast Cufón could render when given a lot of text, I put a test together.  PHP renders out a bunch of random text in blocks ranging from 10 characters to 1,000,000 characters.  Then Cufón goes to task on each, in sequence.  JS tells  you how long it takes.  Try it out here, but be advised it can crash your browser.

    At 100,000 characters, FF3 threw "A script is running slow, blah blah" messages.  IE7 just crashed.  Safari 4 hung in there till 1,000,000 but then it gave up.  It looks like Apple's claims about Safari 4's speed have some truth.  I didn't test any of the past generation of browsers, I may go back and add them later.

    A drum machine! Click the buttons you want to play while the loop is going. Then press "Run" and listen to the beat magic. You can change the tempo, too, if you'd like-just stop the loop (by pressing "Run" again) and then edit the bpm. Right now the sequencer only works in Safari and Firefox because Chrome doesn't support aif/wav files yet-and Internet Explorer is… well… Internet Explorer. On the bright side, there's no flash or other plugin involved. It's all HTML 5 and JavaScript. Created by Jesse Jackson / Pattern86.

    Userscripts are great, but not everyone can use them. If you can, get and add Greasemonkey. Safari has CreamMonkey or PithHelmet, and Opera has userscript support built in. But what if you are using Camino? Or Internet Exploder? For these people, I introduce the GeekMonkey userscript injector. Simply drag this bookmarklet to your bookmarks bar, and click on it while on any page that has a userscript on it. Any userscripts will automatically be turned into bookmarklets, which you can click anywhere you want.

    In my opinion, Xenocode Browsers is the ultimat tool for checking your website in different browsers. Xenocode Browsers allow you to lauch IE6, IE7, IE8, Firefox 2, Firefox 3, Google Chrome and Opera directly from the web. The only weak point: The service isn't available for Macs and GNU/Linux powered PCs.
