Wordle - Beautiful Word Clouds - 2 views
-
ordle is a toy for generating "word clouds" from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. You can print them out, or save them to the Wordle gallery to share with your friends.

How does it work? Just put your image size after our URL and you'll get a placeholder. Like this: http://placehold.it/350x150 You can also use it in your code, like this: Options to add format, text, color and size Adding an image file extension will render the image in the proper format. Image format is optional and the default is a gif. jpg and jpeg are the same. http://placehold.it/300.png/09f/fff Custom text can be entered using a query string at the very end of the url. This is optional, default is the image dimensions (300×250). A-z (upper and lowercase), numbers, and most symbols will work just fine. http://placehold.it/300&text=placehold.it+rocks!

Pegby: Peg it up, Move it Around, Get it Done. - 7 views

Pegby wants you to stop using those sticky notes that seem to be everywhere on and around your work desk, and instead use their cards and stacks to manage tasks. Their task management board is divided into mainly three columns - pending, in process and done (you can add more columns if you need them), and in each column you can add cards which are basically tasks and their descriptions. Different cards (tasks) can be combined together into a named stack, each card or stack can be dragged or dropped across columns. You can also invite people and jointly create and manage tasks. Each card can be customized in various ways. Its color can be changed, it can be tagged and much more. There's a way to filter your board too if you think it's full of clutter. Features: * Manage tasks through online cards and stacks. * Have family members use it along with you. * Add columns to the board, drag and drop cards. * Similar tools: Corkboard, Pindax and WallWisher.

The map shows population density; the brightest points are the highest densities. Each country is colored according to its average annual gross national income per capita, using categories established by the World Bank (see key below). Some nations - like economic powerhouses China and India - have an especially wide range of incomes. But as the two most populous countries, both are lower middle class when income is averaged per capita. It's interesting, but the map is a little wonky, because the income levels and population densities differ in granularity. It kind of works. Kinda doesn't. There seems to be a lot of missing data - or does population density in northern Africa really drop off that quickly (it is desert land, albeit)? A little more explanation in the description or the legend would have been useful. There are also three other slides that follow the map (like the one below), but they're mostly just run-of-the-mill list of facts with cutesy icons to show percentages. Not a fan of those at all. Actually, they kind of bother me.
