As the use of computing and networking technologies in schools grows, educators increasingly incorporate online tools and resources into their curricula-some even replace traditional classroom interactions with "virtual" courses that take place entirely online. At the same time, administrators are concerned with helping students develop 21st century skills while bridging the digital divide between students and adults. To address emerging trends in education, Project Tomorrow, a national education nonprofit group and Blackboard have joined together to bring you Education in the 21st Century, a series of reports that include data from the SpeakUp Survey, which shed light on issues related to learning and leading in K-12 education.

Google Apps Education Training Center is a new online learning environment designed for educators and students who want to effectively use Google Apps in an educational context. The site offers six modules, including Google Apps Education Edition, apps Mail, Calendar, Docs, Sites, and other tools. The training will cover customizing apps for individual schools; organizing e-mail effectively; creating shared calendars; collaborating with others online; using documents, presentations, and spreadsheets; delivering and collecting surveys, quizzes, and feedback; developing media-rich websites; and setting up internal video portals for schools.

The purpose of this resource is to provide "Just in Time" training through an online interface for K-12 educators based on the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T). These standards are the basic technology skills every educator should possess. In the process, educators will develop their own skills and discover what students need in order to meet the NETS for Students, as well as the new MMC Online Experience requirement. Participants who fulfill all of the requirements have the opportunity to earn SBCEU's. To learn more about the session, look under the tab "The 21 Things". Where educators, students, and parents are networking the world together. Global COIN allows international connections via the World Wide Web for researching and collaborating with different cultures and their societies. The International Education K ­ 16 website is a collaborative effort at Pennsylvania Department of Education between the Bureaus of Teaching and Learning and Community and Student Services. This website will emphasize World Languages, World Cultures, and global issues. Global Coin will provide materials and resources to students, teachers, parents and professionals. In the future Global Coin will be enhanced and expanded technologically to meet numerous educational needs.

Ed-tech administrators and educators looking for original and third-party web resources can use the educational Technology Clearinghouse as an online launch pad. The tech Ease resource, for example, is a self-help guide that shows how to use many common technology tools in the classroom. Similarly, the No String Attached option offers a variety of video demonstrations about how to use wireless technology and laptop computers. In addition to the tech-development pagegs, FCIT's site offers portal space that hosts thousands of clip-art images and PowerPoint presentation files that can be reused by teachers under a friendly license, which allows them to be used for free for educational and other noncommerical purposes.

The Regional Educational Laboratory Program (REL) consists of a network of ten laboratories that serve the educational needs of a designated region by providing access to high quality scientifically valid education research through applied research and development projects, studies, and other related technical assistance activities.

Their game, The Radix Endeavor, is designed to be an educational game, and capitalizes on the interactions students can have as a way to build their knowledge and skills. Radix, as it's known, is aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards for biology, focusing on topics like genetics, evolution, ecology and human body systems. In math, the game is aligned to the Common Core and has particular focuses on algebra, probability and statistics, as well as geometry. The researchers worked with Filament Games and are funded by the Gates Foundation for the three-year project."

Terminix has launched an educational website with insect lessons. The website is built around the character Harry, a praying mantis who guides visitors through resources for teachers and students. The educator center provides teachers with curriculum guides and lesson plans, created by entomologists at Audubon Insectarium and Terminix, that correlate with National Science Teacher Association standards.
