Important to bring up at conferences
  • GPA Director Lindsay Whitley said many parents want to support their children’s learning at home, but often they don’t have the resources they need to do so. To fill this need, the district is paying to make a live online tutoring service from Brainfuse available to parents at no cost.
  • The tutoring, which is available for a wide range of subject areas, occurs through a live online chat session with a subject matter expert, and the platform includes a virtual whiteboard tool in which the tutor and student can work out a problem together. “The tutors don’t give students the answers; they help students work through problems on their own,” Whitley said.

Using the diary of a girl who lived through the events of the disintegration of Yugoslavia at the end of the Cold War, this lesson explores the historical, political, and human aspects of this difficult time. This would be excellent for World History, Geography, and World Literature classes.

EducationWorld is pleased to present this professional development resource shared by Dr. Jane Bluestein, an expert in relationship-building, positive school climate and effective instruction. Like boundaries, choices are motivational tools that encourage young people's cooperation through empowerment. Choices build responsibility and commitment, communicate the teacher's respect for students' needs and preferences and can encourage students to perform a particular behavior.

Enter the world of Science Bob to try lots of home experiments, watch experiment videos, and get science fair ideas. I found this through my Resources for Teacher's blog. A neat site to help with teaching science. There are questions kids ask that Bob answers, such as how are Pop Rocks candies made. It will also take you to other science websites to learn about other topics such as volcanoes.
