This is a collection of Internet Safety and Cyberbullying Resources provided by Iowa's Keystone Area Education Agency. I highlighted the two websites that I currently use to teach about Cyber Citizenship, which are Cybersmart and Professor Garfield: Internet Safety and You.
Learning becomes less about pounding facts into individual students' brains and more about how to think collaboratively and critically. To be effective, collaborative learning requires mutual respect among all the players involved, a willingness to listen to others' perspectives, being open to criticism and a desire to share knowledge, and being responsible for and accountable to the group as a whole.
This article really drove home the idea again for changing our education system to adapt to the times. The factory system connection and the way different ideologies influenced our teaching is very powerful.
We need to be setting critical thinking skills at the forefront of our objectives. We are looking for students to continue their life with a thirst of finding out more.
The Many Roles of Skype in the Classroom. These amazing 7th graders used Skype as a part of their history project that resulted in their collaboration with the curator of the National Museum in Canada.
Skype is a free and easy way for teachers to open up their classroom.
Meet new people, talk to experts, share ideas and create amazing learning
experiences with teachers from around the world.
Denise,
Thanks for sharing this link. I was excited to see that I could join the educator's skype and connect my students to a forest ranger in Yellowstone, and Olympic events. Amazing!
This site has specific cultural videos targeted for elementary, middle school, and high school students. One video I viewed showed a large family meal being shared in Bangledesh.
Lots of material here to give students a world view so different from their own.
I liked this article. It really re-emphazies the need to build students with stronger learning skill such as critical thinking, evaluation, and analysis.
The 21st-century child will be greatly influenced by events thousands of miles away because they have an immediate impact. Less than 80 years ago no one owned a TV and few people travelled more than 50 miles from the town in which they were born.
Excellent article to remind me how fast technology has progressed in the last century. There are plenty of people that have witnessed all of the changes also.
I like the idea that you have access to all of your revisions. Too often students revised something and it is not really better. They might want to go back to the original one but they do not have it saved. This way they can go back and see the progress they have made. It is also an easy way for others to help with editing.
I love the friendship flag and the way we are the friend ship flag would tie in with my art lessons easily and the way we are would be a fun site for teaching tolerance and understanding. Such great resources thanks for sharing!
