By framing the world population as a community of 100 people, we help students to better understand the complex issues facing our planet and the resources we share.

All I can say is "Wow!" I didn't know that this site/project was out there! A great tool for teachers to help students understand the citizens they share this world with. Lesson plans, videos, etc.

Simple Structures: The late Hilda Taba, noted social studies educator and curriculum developer, always emphasized that "kids need categories," or "pigeon-holes," if you will, into which they can fit new facts, concepts and ideas. Abundant learning theory supports this. The fact is that most teachers also appreciate having some simple structures with which to work.

This video presentation by Tony Jackson is one I think educators need to view. He speaks about how we need to help our kids be globally competent by doing four things: 1) Kids need to investigate the world by asking questions that are globally significant. 2) Our kids need to recognize the perspectives of others in the world. 3) Our kids need to be able to communicate ideas to others in the world through technology, media, and nonverbal and verbal means. 4)Our kids need to understand that they can change the world with their knowledge and contributions.

Actually Sam posted this site originally. Not sure why I was unable to repost it here without showing that he shared it first. Anyway, there are basic words and phrases like greetings and cultural etiquette given for different countries.

1. School Tube is a website dedicated to the sharing of videos created by students and teachers. School Tube allows teachers and schools to create their own channels for sharing their students' works. School Tube also provides excellent how-to resources, copyright-friendly media, and lesson plans for using video in the classroom.

I think the term "digital citizenship" has been replaced by by cyber citizenship, but this video has some good points to share with students.
