The Great Depression Unit - 2 views

  •
It is great that as teachers we can use technology to find lesson plans that contribute or assist to our own lesson plans. This site has an entire unit on The Great Depression and New Deal that involves multiple research based strategies such as cooperative learning and non linguistic representation. I actually used one of the lessons during my practicum and the kids loved it!

Graphic Organizers - 0 views

  •
I found this website that offers free graphic organizers for teachers to help them provide a varied, exciting curriculum. These GOs can be used in all subjects. I think it is important to include organizers such as these in our curriculum to especially assist in students with special needs and culturally/linguistically diverse individuals. Enjoy!!

This poet shows an excellent example of how a poem should be presented. Mike uses everything from relating to the audience, truth not fact, and his movements are purposeful.

I found this list of tips from another teacher, actually, but I thought it would be handy to use for a poetry unit. I love what it says about how to write successful poetry, and even perform it. It's great!

History Videos - 1 views

I love videos! Even students who do not claim to be "visual learners" enjoy a video because it keeps their attention and helps them remember the information they are viewing. I have used this website multiple times when teaching lessons in various schools and they have always gone over well. Plus, not only is it a great resource, but it is also allowed in internet filters. YouTube, on the other hand, is blocked in the majority of schools.

Simulations for Social Studies Classes - 1 views

  •
I found this website when doing an assignment for another class. It has lots of ideas of engaging simulation activities for lots of subjects within social studies, such as civics, economics, history, geography, and others. Some of my favorites include the Oregon Trail activity and the Presidential Interview Panel. If you cannot find the type of activity you are looking for, there is a great search bar that allows you to look for more ideas you weren't even aware of.

I found this useful website that has many links and sources for history teachers trying to incorporate technology into their classes. They seem to provide quite a bit of support. I think I will like this site.

This is a great website for history teachers. It provides a comprehensive guide to teaching history with various types of technology. It includes different links to websites that provide technological lesson plans and activities, most of which I found could be very useful in a history classroom. The site also gives ideas on creating presentations and using multimedia in the classroom. Another great feature the site provides is the ability to discuss and collaborate with other history teachers - it provides blogs, Wikis, and even Google docs.

NOVA | A Walk to Beautiful | Two Worlds | PBS - 0 views

  • Yet for women in developing nations—far more so than in wealthy countries like those in North America and Europe—there is also reason to be fearful. One in five African women, for instance, will lose a baby during labor or soon after. And each year, hundreds of thousands of women in Africa will themselves die or suffer debilitating injuries during pregnancy and childbirth. In this quiz, get a sense of the stark disparities in maternal health for women in rich and poor countries.

This is super sad! Great statistic however, to use in a child development or health class.

Compares two women on opposite sides of the world and their pregnancy. This would be really good for a Child Development class or even a World Geography Class.

Content Area Literacy: Beyond the Language Arts Classroom : Teachers at Work : Thinkmap... - 0 views

man, this is a great idea!
  • This new, expanded definition of literacy includes the development of a set of interrelated skills that include reading, writing, speaking, viewing, listening, and questioning; all leading to the ability to critically assess and use information. We inhabit a world in which information is coming at us in ways that impact all of our senses. Today's teachers understand that giving their students the skills to interpret information, however it's packaged, is also an important part of educating learners who are prepared to succeed in this century's competitive global workplace. Teachers are teaching their students how to evaluate all types of information sources. Whether it's hard text, electronic informational sources, MTV, or a documentary film, teachers are helping students learn to think critically about the information they encounter. So, how does this instruction look in the content area classroom?
