Organizing/tagging of our bookmarks - 46 views

Demetri,
I was feeling the same yesterday as I shared my bookmarks. My tags make sense to me, but do they to others?
For this list, the general tag "tablets" is pretty generic. Maybe we could have some more specific links, like:
"tablet_software" or "tablet_tools" -- software/widgets to support tablet computing
"tablet_tricks" or "tablet_techniques" -- tips/tricks/techniques for tablet use
"tablet_research" -- research about using tablets in the classroom or to support learning
"tablet_support" -- repair, fixes, etc
"tablet_hardware" -- brands, hardware info
"tablet_schools" -- schools using tablets
"tablet_tutorials" -- tutorials about tablet use
"tablet_students" -- info for/about kids using tablets
"tablet_curriculum" -- lesson plans / curriculum specific to tablets
"tablet_interactives" -- interactive websites especially effective with tablets
"tablet_talk" -- general discussions about the use of tablets
"tablet_advantages" -- advantages available with tablets not available with traditional computing
Just a thought... Other suggestions? I'd be happy to revise my tags if these make sense to others. -
I just took some time to update tags on the bookmarks I've posted thus far. I tried to stick to a more specific tagging vocabulary, pretty close to my last post. I hope this works for everyone.

What software should all tablet users have? What are you favorites for use with kids?

I've played with it a bit. It will take some time to get used to the interface, but it does seem more tablet-friendly. I can't see me switching from OneNote, however. I love the shared notebook capabilities. We're using them pretty heavily in my school, now that we have some of the network bugs worked out.

The Classmate didn't have tablet OS yet. I'm waiting for the production model with the OS I'd like to fully evaluate. That will come in January. Intel isn't looking at an adult consumer for this model - strictly K-9. The keyboard and formfactor compare to netbooks, but it's got more ruggedized features than typical netbooks. I believe it's the first tabletpc in this price range and size. I know there are ultraportables with similar and smaller size, but they're generally 3-4x the price.
That said, I've heard from a ton of people using the Toshiba M700 tablet with touch screen who LOVE it. I believe it's the current model at Cincinnati Country Day School. I think it would take a bit of getting used to, but I'd be happy to have one myself (I've got the M700 with regular screen). My students are using the M700s I use. The one weak spot is the corner where the stylus is stored. We've had a lot of breakage on that corner, and it's been frustrating because the stylus gets stuck or can't be inserted.
I'll be blogging about the Classmate tablet once the production model is in my hands :-) I'm really hoping it becomes a viable option for us.
