The Department of Science and Technology (DST), together with the Department of Basic Education and the Eastern Cape Department of Education, has launched the Cofimvaba Schools District Technology Project.

Our vision is to mobilise business, government and civil society to work collaboratively towards meeting the educational challenges facing South Africa. The S@CC initiative speaks to the idea that enhancing the quality of education, improving the school environment and encouraging engagement between parents and teachers are meaningful and attainable goals that would provide an upward spiral of real change in society. S@CC is committed to realising the Third Dinokeng Scenario: Walking Together. This scenario envisions a future for South Africa marked by collaboration, engagement and active citizenship, in which multiple sectors work together in support of a better South Africa.

Thandulwazi derives from the isiZulu, meaning "the love of learning". The Thandulwazi Maths and Science Academy, is an education programme run by the St Stithians Foundation. It was established in 2006 out of the need for effective action in addressing the critical issues pertaining to the teaching of Maths and Science in schools in and around Gauteng

A local mobile project using cellphones and mxit to get teens to read and write novels.

A few local projects focussed on translating Khan academy videos into Xhosa as well as giving township youth mentorship and support in mathematics on a Saturday morning.

Ubunye is dedicated to providing educational advancement, opportunities for leadership and life-skills development, and mentorship and guidance to motivated high school learners in Cape Town.

TeachOut harnesses the experience and expertise of UCT students to provide academic assistance to high school learners in Cape Town's disadvantaged communities. TeachOut is a remarkable opportunity for both the tutored and the tutors and plays an important role in educating the youth of this nation.
