Debate on traditional vs. digital reading continues.

Sketchnoting is like notetaking, but it includes visual notes as well as words. It's a way of conceptualizing ideas, information, and other data on paper (or a digital tablet) beyond the traditional text medium of outlining. Sketchnoting, or visual notetaking, is for clustering information and capturing big ideas.  it involves using text, fonts, diagrams, bullets, and visual pictures and icons, similar to how you may use an advanced word processor

Year 7 at St Joseph's Mundingburra created digital mosaics as an affective response to a group reading and discussion of Colin Thompson's "Dust," an Honour Book in the Picture Book category in this year's CBCA Book of the Year awards. The mosaics attempted to express the book's themes of starvation, isolation, loneliness, global responsibility, immediacy, caring, love and hope. Making your own comic at the website is a simple matter of first choosing a layout. On the next screen, you are shown your layout and must add characters, objects, settings and bubbles to each frame. There are menu controls: flip, delete, make bigger/smaller, bring forward/back and rotate to help customise the pictures. The speech bubbles are easily edited for text. Kids can also see sample pages for inspiration. Once done, a child's creation can be printed out, or he can take a screen grab to save a digital copy.
