"Reflection is a form of mental processing - like a form of thinking - that we use to fulfill a purpose or to achieve some anticipated outcome. It is applied to relatively complicated or unstructured ideas for which there is not an obvious solution and is largely based on the further processing of knowledge and understanding and possibly emotions that we already possess (based on Moon 1999) Moon points out that one of the defining characteristics of surface learning is that it does not involve reflection (p.123). I'm sure some teachers love assessing and marking student work, but honestly, I'm uncomfortable with most grading and scoring. I appreciate feedback and I don't mind giving feedback, but I hate reducing it to a letter, number, or score. To me, it undervalues the learning."

"26 Bay Bloggers is our second year of blogging. We began as Busybees at the Bay a 4/5 class blog in 2011. In 2012 we became 26 Bay Bloggers with 26 Year 3/4 students new to blogging. Our school is in Southern Tasmania, Australia. Our blog will share with our community some of the things we do at school. It is aimed to inform parents, share classroom displays and ICT learning and be used as a way to record our learning journey. At this stage we will not be sharing photos of ourselves that are identifiable but we will share our voices and lots of learning we have done. Blogging is also a way to open us up to other classrooms around the world. We are hoping to make contact with other classes from different places in Australia and different countries. "In cooperative learning, students work together, think together and plan together using a variety of group structures designed along an instructional path. This dynamic learning model breaks with the dusty forms of frontal teaching that often create classrooms of "lonesome togetherness" -- students who may sit together but live worlds apart. Cooperative learning creates what Daniel Goleman calls "cognitive empathy," a mind-to-mind sense of how another person's thinking works.
