An article published in the rolling stone explores the Frat scene at Dartmouth with interviews from a former pledge.

The hazing culture in college fraternities is awful, especially in the Ivy-league schools because of the uber competitive atmosphere. It seems that at all schools in fraternities, they do not learn how dangerous their antics are until someone is either injured or dead. It should not take a death or injury for these people to learn. I think that what Lohse did was pretty ill because he finally stood up to all of the corporate bull shit. I think that one of the craziest things that Lohse mentioned was how he was astonished how so many "good people" good do such bad things to one another and not feel particularly bad about. This made me think a lot about how human nature is pretty wild and how william golding may have been right all along.

Some of the things described in this article were pretty horrific. It's disturbing to think about these kids being thrown into this scene, thinking that it's the only way to "have a social life" at Dartmouth, and ending up having to eat a "vomlet" to keep their place in the fraternity. The worst thing is that Dartmouth is the source for many of the country's leaders in business and politics. I don't think taking abuse, and inflicting pain upon peers, is a good way to "train" the people who will hold power in the future.

Reading this article, I was pretty shocked at the gruesome things Ivy league nerds do to be less nerdy. But I think it makes sense that these men would do this. It reflects how guys in our society have the desperate need to constantly show off their masculinity. Many of these frat rushers at Dartmouth have been used to succeeding in everything their entire life, and they are not about to fail at being manly/cool/hardcore. I am so glad this article was released because now these vomit slip-n-slide festivities won't be required just so you can belong to a close group of bros.

I think you could tell a lot about a person by what they're willing to join a frat. I dont know if it has something to do with a lack of friends throughout their childhood or what but for me personally there is nothing that would be worth this kinda of abuse. I think it's important that colleges and universities really crack down on this frat behavior and make sure that kids don't have to fully embarrass themselves for a clique.
