I was shocked when I read this article. Up until this point I have been amazed by the fact that nobody seems to be talking about the seriousness of what is going on in Kiev and the rest of Ukraine. Now that Russia is sending armed forces in, I feel like people are going to have to start paying more attention. Why do you think the public's discussion of this has been so minimal, compared to something like the Arab Spring? Is the media to blame, or have they been providing accurate coverage? What do you think of the story in general?

Wow I'm really glad you posted this because I was embarrassingly uneducated on the subject. In terms of the the story in general, I think it was interesting how the page was set up. Rather than just having a story and a few pictures to back up the text, they had an intro and then different sections like "In other developments" or an entire section of pictures. I think we could definitely do something like that for our website, especially with smaller things like news updates.

In my classes, there has actually been a lot of discussion about the Kiev and Ukraine. However, the entire subject is very murky and trenched in a lot of long standing history-so it can be hard to understand. Crimea has strong ties with Russia and much of Crimea hopes to become part of Russia or have their help to become autonomous. But not all of Crimea. The Prime minister of the Ukraine has publicly stated that the invasion of Crimea is an act of war, but NATO wants peaceful negotiations. And BOTh the Ukraine and Russia are our allies.
I think part of the reason we're not have lots of discussions, is the entire issue is very confusing. Ukraine seems to be the little 'good' underdog in this situation, but it isn't that simple and if we helped them, we would have all of Russia's wrath to deal with.

I'm glad we are hearing about this.

It's almost a little misleading to say that the Prime Minister of Ukraine has said that the invasion is an act of war given that the entire Ukrainian government has been overthrown in the last few months and the last "legally elected" leader is currently hiding in Russia and is insisting he is still in charge.
