This article discusses the flipped classroom and relates to student centered learning. It specifically refers to a math class but is quite general. I believe it could relate to many content areas in schools.

This is a great site for kids and teachers. Ms. Warner likes the standards part. You enter your school username and password. Do the assignments in oder if possible. We like the games part. It's sorted by grade level so if you want to make it harder you can. It tells you if you make a mistake it shows you what you got wrong.

Really amazing games with lots of levels. In the geography section alone, there are nine levels that range from perfect for second grade to challenging for middle school.

Official website for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. This site includes videos and descriptions of all the characters. There are some games like crosswords but they are kinda lame.

This is the World Digital library - with a small selection of digitized cultural resources from around the world. The most amazing thing is the search feature - there's an interactive timeline that allows you to search by time period and then focus on a map region. Perfect for students.

Amazing website from the Library of Congress - just for teachers - with digitized primary sources. You can search the digital collections and library catalogs also. This site has tons of resources on the most popular lessons.

The best web 2.0 tool for simple real-time sharing, collaboration and presentation. You can name your place, set due dates, limit collaboration and it's easy to add stuff. It's free. Real-time. Good for having a presentation. And there's an 800 number you can call into for a conference call to add audio. And you can add content to your presentation from a mobile source. The moderator sets the limit 4 people.

This is a cool web 2.0 tool that allows you to add a list of links and submit it to get a single link to them all, conveniently displayed in tabs. You can then share it on email, IM, Twitter or SMS. It's perfect for teachers who want kids to visit a series of websites.

This is a web-based meeting tool that allows people to share drawing. It's a lot like etherpad. This site requires a login and lets teachers have professional accounts. If you have an edu account that works easiest, but if you have a dot.org email they will allow it. You can only have one whiteboard open at one time - not good for multitab browsers. You can upload images on this board. This site has a chat port too.

This is a web-based word processor that doesn't require logins or downloads. You just start writing instantly. Up to 8 people can collaborate at one time REAL TIME. Each time someone adds something it shows up in a different color. Very cool. There is a chat feature that everyone can see which can be distracting. One person starts the document and then you send the URL to 8 others. This is faster than googledocs and works on mobile devices.

This is a great resource for history teachers or social studies teachers. This site is a multi-level, interactive game where students become a fictional character in history. The two time periods they can play in are the American Revolution and the Civil War. In each game, students make choices based on scenarios and conversations they listen to and watch. Then the game progresses based on their choices. There are multiple paths the game can take, which makes it different when different kids play - generating great conversations. it is a long game - this will take at least two or three full class periods to play. Best for elementary/early middle school.

This is an incredibly detailed website with lengthy and detailed multi-level interactive games for students to learn about Congress, the Supreme Court, the legislative process, running for President, and more. It requires some background knowledge but for middle or high school students (and some elementary), it's a great way to learn and teach!

This article speaks directly to integrating technology into the classroom and gives examples of how it can be done in numerous classes; math, English, French. It takes a look at a school in Silicon Valley and evaluates the IPAD pilot program that the school is involved in. This is a fairly new program that is still in the process of being developed and at this time it seems that the IPADs are being used as a tool to enhance learning in the classroom. They are hoping to evolve so that IPADs become not simply an enhancement tool but rather a tool that helps transform student-centered learning. Although it sounds like there are some real advantages to having the IPADs in various courses, there are drawbacks which need to be considered before taking this route of a one to one IPAD to student ratio. The cost is certainly the largest issue. The other issues that are of concern are internet speed and stable connection in general and truly getting more out of the IPADs than just an enhancement tool. When considering technology, it is important to make sure you are buying the right piece of technology and not simply buying technology for the sake of having technology.

This is a public media site out of Northern California. It has lots of articles about technology trends that have influenced the classroom. Seems to be heavily focused on science and the arts.

This site provides a plethora of multimedia resources all in one place! It includes Pictures & Images, Movies & Streaming Resources, Audio Clips, Slide Show Resources and much more. The UEN.org (Utah Education Network) itself also provides interesting lessons and ideas. I have found many helpful resources throughout their website as it pertains to not only multi-media but also interesting lesson planning ideas.

Scratch is a programming site that makes it easy to embark upon computational masterpieces. This can definitely fit into numerous content areas. Lesson parameters can be designed so that there is a large component of student centered learning that occurs. The philosophy of the site is definitely about students learning through their own investigations. This can be used to fulfill technology curriculum in any content area and is applicable for all grades including college and beyond.

TenMarks is a site for students to practice math skills. Teachers can preselect math topics for students to practice. As the students complete the different tests, they can earn rewards which can be redeemed at the reward zone. Parents can also see how their student is performing. It also has its own tutorial section for additional help. TenMarks seems to be a great tool to help students gain confidence in their mathematical skills. With teacher direction of setting up topics, the students can focus on area(s) in which they need help. This seems to be a helpful site. It would be easy to integrate into any math classroom: inside or outside.

Science Kids is a site designed to help students understand different science topics. It has different sections: games, experiments, facts, and quizzes. The games allow the student to test their knowledge. They give instant feedback to the student. The experiments allow the student to try different experiments at home. They give a list of supplies and the science behind the experiment and results. This site is great for reinforcing different scientific concepts. It has both life and physical sciences topics. The games are more beneficial when reviewing a unit as opposed to the end of a lesson. This site would be beneficial for a teacher to use inside the classroom for quick reinforcement when a student may have some time at a computer. The teacher might also reference the site at a parent/teacher conference or open house.
