These house poor families were spending more than 30 percent of their income to pay back the principal and interest for their loans, and had more liabilities than available assets, meaning they would be unable to repay their debts even by selling off all their non-home assets. Most house poor, or 96.3 percent, said in the survey that they were finding the repayment ofloans extremely burdensome. About three-quarters of them said they were reducing their spending to pay off the loans.Sixty-four percent said they would like to sell their homes soon. As for the reasons for wanting to sell off their home, 26.9 percent said they wished to readjust their asset portfolio, and 25.4 percent cited the burden of repaying loans.Others said they wished to change the size of their homes (18.7 percent) or to withstand the economic downturn (13.7 percent).Nearly two-fifths of the house poor were in their 30s and 40s. Money Matters - Managing your Finances as an Ex-pat in Korea! - The-looser-it-s-me - 0 views

Two years ago, when I started toying with the idea of coming to Korea to teach English, my main concern was managing my finances back home. Like so many recent college graduates, I had student loans that would require monthly payments, a car lease, and a credit cards to pay down. Since I had never lived in another country, or been out of the country for that matter, I had no idea how efficient and simple Korean banking and managing your overseas accounts can be. So, if you're like me and you want the scoop on money matters before you head to Korea, read on for quick tips and tricks to help you save money, transfer large sums, and even pay your taxes. Tip #1: Be prepared! Before you leave your country, make sure that you notify your bank, credit cards, student loan lenders, cellphone company, auto loan lenders, etc. Essentially, if you owe money to anyone or you have money saved in any account, make those institutions aware that you will be traveling for a year or more. Most importantly, bring a record of ALL of your banking information: routing numbers, account numbers, and your SWIFT CODE. What's a Swift Code? It's a bank-specific number that allows a foreign bank to easily locate and transfer funds to your domestic accounts. This number, along with your other account information, is essential for seamless transactions and can be obtained simply by contacting your bank and requesting their current Swift Code. Tip #2: On-line Banking: Now-a-days I do the majority of my banking, shopping, and paying bills online. Most banking networks give you access to your funds and statements in an on-line account, so make sure that you set one up before you leave the country. You can also pay your student loans, credit cards, and most other bills online. Furthermore, this is an excellent way to track your savings and be notified of any transfer fees (most banks assess a $15-$20 fee for wire transfers). Tip #3: Enlist Friends and Family: It may also be a wise decision to

Personal Review Blog on Springhill Vellum Bristol Gold Available at Amazon.com - 0 views

I know that Bristol board is usually used for catalog and book covers, tickets, tags and printing brochures. But as a student of architecture and an avid designer, I use this kind of paper for my scale models (which, for those who are not familiar with the term, is a smaller physical version of something bigger, like a building or an automobile). I currently have several sets of two- and three-ply bristol papers that are used as walls of my scale models. One-ply is almost translucent so I rarely use them. Bristol, as it is commonly referred to, is a kind of paperboard which is ideal for tons of things and comes in a variety of colors. I love using Bristol paper because it's very versatile. I buy a whole bunch of them and stack them on my desk so I have something nice to use in various illustrations, technical drawings and even 2D art forms. Actually, illustration boards are also fine in such purposes but I find it impractical for you can only use one side of it. On the other hand, Bristol board have two working surfaces, so basically, you can use either or both sides. And because I normally use charcoal and crayon as my primary media form, vellum finish is more ideal for me. It has a moderate surface texture which is really apt for friction-based medium. Works well with pens, too! (But if you are more focused on using ink, choose the plate finish Bristol paper instead -- it's glass-like texture is better suited for ink.) The current brand I use is from Springhill Vellum Bristol. This Bristol paper works like a charm. And it's very accessible, even online. Just go to Amazon.com and search for Springhill Vellum Bristol Gold. One pack contains 5 sheets and weighs a total of 1 pound so it's not that costly even if you order online. Their gold colored is consistent all throughout the papers and it is the exact hue I needed, too! Optimist Lake now completely empty | Fox10tv.com - 0 views

  • Matt Barrentine MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A lake in West Mobile has disappeared. Ironically it's vanishing act was the result of record rainfall that drained Optimist's lake and flooded two homes in the process. Now neighbors off Cody road want the lake back and the drainage problem, caused by an undermined dam, solved for good. Completely empty...? Before last week's heavy rains, Optimist Lake was a pretty little lake surrounded by homes off Cody road. Now it is a brown, muddy bog filled with trash and dead fish. Marlon Brooks was looking over the damaged dam that traps the water in the lake. He said, "It looks like the water has undermined the dam out there and pretty much flooded out the woods out back out here." The Bamboo Steakhouse restaurant sits on the lake. They just started having live music on their deck on Monday nights, but owner John Nguyen is worried if folks will show up tonight. He told us, "It's going to hurt my business if I don't get this back. It's the biggest asset to our restaurant."

New Mortgage Disclosure Forms To Roll Out In August 2015 - 1 views

  •
The shorter forms, set to be adopted by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, will demonstrate buyers more evidently the terms and cost of a home loan. The federal government's consumer financial watchdog will necessitate lenders to issue shorter, easier-to-understand mortgage disclosure forms to home buyers that more noticeably show the costs and terms of the loans. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau plans to issue the rule Wednesday, November 20, subsequent through on what was an initiative launched in 2011 as the then-fledgling agency's first major action. The early Know Before You Owe forms were welcomed by consumer and industry groups as a development more than the more intricate disclosures essential under federal law for more than 30 years. The bureau said the new forms would make it easier for home buyers to compare loan offers. "Taking out a mortgage is one of the biggest financial decisions a consumer will ever make," said Richard Cordray, the bureau's director. "Our new Know Before You Owe mortgage forms improve consumerunderstanding, aid comparison shopping and help prevent closing … surprises for consumers." Lenders will be mandated to use the new forms, available in English and Spanish, starting Aug. 1, 2015. The forms will be given to potential home buyers when they apply for a mortgage and when they close on the loan. They will make available the detailed information like the estimated monthly principal and interest payments, closing costs and any prepayment penalties or balloon payments. The latest loan estimate form and the closing disclosure form use large and bold type for important information like the interest rate and feature highlighted headings and terms to make them easier to read.

(Source: Dirk Godder dpa, Hamburg, Germany (MCT) - President Lee Myung Bak apologized to South Koreans Tuesday for the involvement of his elder brother and former aides in corruption cases. "Fellow Koreans, disgraceful incidents have recently happened to my family and people surrounding me and caused so much anxiety," he said. "I bow my head and extend my apology for causing anxiety to the people due to these incidents," said Lee, who is in the final year of his presidency. He said he would "take full responsibility" for the scandals but added he would continue to carry out his duties as president. Springhill Groups - Scams Deliberate To Get Your Holiday Cash - 0 views

"This can work in two ways, trough email, text message or social-media post, the gift-check scam is more popular during Christmas season where people are buying on this a lot. The scam goes like this; a message will appear from nowhere announcing you a winner of a popular retail gift card. You are then instructed to follow a link and when you click it you will be directed to a site that is a remarkable clone of the real thing. This site will ask for your personal information like your email, birth date and favorite color. This indicates that you're directed off the bogus site to a credit-card application, and because you filled-up this information sheet the fraudster has what he wants. You can also deceived by buying bogus card online from third parties. And if buying over the counter, make sure the PIN code on the back hasn't been scratched off, an indication that it's been hacked by someone in the store. This next bogus often comes via email. This one is called package-delivery scam. It appears to be from a legitimate company, the email gives the impression of being genuine complete with a phony tracking number and a note about the delivery error. There's an attachment with a made-up delivery label that you're told to take to the nearest delivery office to get the package. Open it, and you'll be subjecting your computer or smartphone to malware and virus attacks. These E-cards appears to be seemingly harmless thank you note or holiday greetings but you will never know until you click on it and it could be spyware or viruses that automatically download when opened or when they direct you to download to see the card. Best-deal-ever scams, if it is to good to be true more like it is a scam, it is a lie. The idea is they will attract you on deals and items then after sending them the money you will not get anything in return. They will say that items are limited and rare to find so they are selling it for higher prices on online auction site but af

They agreed over the phone that she will be receiving the money within 15 minutes; the money was supposedly for Lisa's new furniture. But instead of receiving the said money, she was asked to pay an additional £295 in voucher form Good thing is that she refused.  She rather contacted the police and is now warning residents not to fall prey to such schemes. She said: "I feel absolutely gutted and stupid that I fell for it. They're very crafty and I just don't want anyone else to fall for it. "The company has been harassing me with over 20 calls a day, emptied my bank account and left me nervous of borrowing from other providers." She added. This incident isn't new to Suffolk Police.  They have been receiving details of similar occurrences from residents and are also urging people not to provide personal information to cold callers. Ukash was the code given by Lisa, which can be bought from high street shops with cash and spent online using the code rather than providing bank or credit card details. A police spokesman said: "They are never genuinely used as advance fee payment for loans or other similar products. They are simply designed for the purchase of goods from the internet or other retailers. "Anyone offering a genuine loan will not ask for a cash payment up front for the service. "Fraudsters will try anything to get you to part with your cash so if you receive any unsolicited calls from people asking you for cash or voucher details then please do not give it to them." This is a great example that anyone can be a victim of these scams.  We must be very watchful and on guard of ourselves in all time. We will never know when fraudsters will attack in any form o

The last time we hit similar temperatures in this area at this time was in 1941, with a record of 88 degrees, according to The Baltimore Sun. At Long Reach High School, the air conditioning went out Monday morning after a refrigerant leak in the boiler room, but school officials said they were able to preserve the internal temperature by keeping windows closed. Howard County schools are in session until June 8, and in Elkridge, the Watermont Swim Club doesn't open until Saturday, May 26. Do you enjoy the summer temperatures in April? Tell us in comments. If you're not a fan of the heat, not to worry-temperatures are expected to cool down on Tuesday, with a high of 74, according to the National Weather Service.
