Visual Fractions - A Fraction Tutorial - 0 views

  •
A fractions tutorial that models fractions with number lines or circles. Fraction games are included. This site has interesting graphics like a huge scale which I think make it a little different and kids would like. Reinforcement of fraction knowledge I feel is important through out middle school

Origami Polyhedra - nuwen.net - 0 views

  •
This is the site if you wish to know how to make mathematical shapes like a polyhedra out of paper. Once you get the basic folds down, its only a matter of deciding how big you want your shape to be. Use of paper for these objects can be a tree killer but if you use recycle paper donated by parents, it is feasible for students to make a simple shape.

TV411 - Tune In To Learning - 0 views

  •
This site is the website for a television program TV411. It is focused on adult education in the practical basics of reading, writing, vocabulary and math skills. I found the math lessons tie the use of math in every day problem situations like buying something over time, Mortgage Basics, Using Credit Cards wisely. These are good sources for teachers to show relevency and the practical use of the math they are learning in real life problem situations.

Connexions - Sharing Knowledge and Building Communities - 0 views

This site is aptly named. This site has all sorts of articles, learning modules, instructional texts that members can post and share in the online community. I found the articles about connecting music with math very interesting. There are great ideas for connecting curriculum with other areas of interest like music.

Resources, resources, resources. From Lesson Planning to Technology Integration, Administrator's Desk to Professional Development. Like many education sites, they cover all bases in the education profession but what I appreciated was the sense of humor they allowed in some of there articles.

Achievement Gap: Home - 0 views

  •
This is a site from the University of Michigan and it tackles the question, "How do we close the achievement gap? Really nice articles to read and discuss with peers. We all know there are no simple answers and dialog can only help define the multiple ways to close the gap.

This is an interesting organization. It provides professional development resources and workshops for educators. They have free resources for journals and some interesting commentary on student assessment. The founder of this site is Grant Wiggins. I'll be doing some more research on him.

Get feedback with Backboard - 0 views

  •
This site offers an online collaboration tool that is simpler than other similar sites. I would use it more for team planning or school event planning where you wish for feedback from multiple people. Similar to a wiki but not that elaborate hence easier to set up and use for instant feedback on a document or write up design ideas, etc

Vocaroo Record and send voice emails - 0 views

  •
This is a neat appplication. It enables you to record a voice message and then send it via email. This could be used by teachers to send out a reminder to parents about tutoring sessions and contacting parents about progress being signed and returned. It changes up the normal emails sent to parents to notify them of something concerning their child.

MathNEXUS: Mathematics Portal - 0 views

  •
This site like many similar math sites has great ideas for math teachers. What makes it different is that every week they post a POW, Statistic of the Week, Humor of the week, Website of the week, Resource of the week, Oldie but Goodie for the week. There are also Archives of each category. This is a nice resource that teachers can use daily in their classroom

http://nomee.com - 0 views

  •
Provides a way to organize all the online groups under one umbrella. You may have a WIKI for your course, a discussion group for bookclub, WIKI for grade level; each with their one group of people who really do not overlap. Instead of organizing by site - you organize by people. Interesting idea as we become members of multiple online groups and get to know the people in them as well groups purpose and resources

Conduit: Create a Free Customized Toolbar for your Website - 0 views

  •
This site gives you a way to create a tool bar for your website. Applications could be for school websites, teacher's websites. or webquests. It would help teachers encourage students particiapation in an online assignment by making it easier for students to link to the teachers website. After the assignment is done, students could delete the tool bar.

  •
Want to learn a foreign language enough for travel, education, or just for the heck of it? This is a free online site to learn a language with the ability to converse with people who speak the language you are learning via the web. I would use it for learning Spanish which could be helpful in the classrooms of today!

Exploratree - template library fo mindmapping - 0 views

  •
I liken these templates to graphic organizers. This site has a library of templates for all sorts of mind mapping. Teachers can keep a library of the templates they made up for units of study or problem solving exercise.
