Problem Guitars - TWMW - 0 views

"Three custom guitars, a gong, maracas shaped like large closed fists, and a series of drum-heads ornated with his classic hand and slogans like 'LOOK AT THIS' and "PLEASE WAIT" The gong states the self-explaining text 'GONG'. While crafted with a luthier's precision, the artist's mischievous design-guitars with one string, some fretless-results in unexpected sounds. The black-and-white guitars are connected to small amplifiers. Alongside the instruments, Shrigley will also present a new series of black and white drawings."

"Capturing just 20 seconds of a songbird's chirrup, or an elk's bugle, or a kangaroo's chortle often requires hours of stillness and solitude. It's a craft that Birmingham-born sound recordist Martyn Stewart has perfected over the last 55 years. In that time, he's built up one of the largest private collections of natural sound in the world. Comprising 30,000 hours of material, it includes recordings of 3,500 bird species, alongside countless mammals, insects, amphibians and reptiles, as well as soundscapes of the Serengeti, the Arctic and Chernobyl, 10 years after the nuclear reactor meltdown. At least four of the species he's recorded are now extinct in the wild, including the northern white rhinoceros and the Panamanian tree frog."

Sunday Sound Thought #64 - The Extra-Dynamics of INSIDE - 0 views

"INSIDE is a fantastic sounding game full of craft, polish and the sorts of perfect choices that only experience can bring. I have zero opinion on its overall loudness, and its weighted dynamics probably fall within the ranges we'd all aim to ship a game within. But its perceived dynamics are staggering"

taracatá trabaja - J I M E N A S A R N O - 0 views

  •
"taracatá trabaja uses the traditional Argentinian folk song, Malambo del Hornerito, as a point of departure. It is an ode to the Argentinian national bird-the serially procreating, monogamous, and hard working hornero who builds his home from spit and dirt. Created through long-distance collaboration, the musical composition of taracatá trabaja is derived from the two onomatopoeias in the folk song: taracatá, characterizing the sound of laborious work (i.e. fields being plowed and nails being hammered) and chapalea, a verb evolving from the sound of squelching in mud. In taracatá trabaja, the hand drawn hornero rests on the porcelain surface along the music score, reminding one of the complexities of making a home, and of labor and its imbued ideas of meritocracy, while reclaiming pleasure, well being and dignity."
