Americans' trust in corporations plummets - South Florida Business Journal: - 0 views

  • Tuesday, January 27, 2009, 3:43pm EST  |  Modified: Wednesday, January 28, 2009, 12:00am Americans’ trust in corporations plummets South Florida Business Journal Print Email Reprints RSS Feeds Add to Del.icio.us Digg This Comments One of Barack Obama’s campaign messages was the need to restore trust, and, if a new survey is any indication, he’s got his work cut out for him. Nearly two-thirds of the public trusts corporations less than they did a year ago, according to the 10th Edelman Trust Barometer. Just 38 percent of respondents said they trust business to do what is right – down 20 percent from last year. And that lack of trust comes from the top. Only 17 percent said they trust information coming from a company’s CEO. That’s lower than those Edelman measured after the Enron scandal, the dot-com bust and Sept. 11.

Micro Persuasion: links for 2009-03-17-data mining - 0 views

  •
Steve Rubel is the only source you need to learn how to mine data-Data mining is the process of extracting hidden patterns from data. As more data is gathered, with the amount of data doubling every three years,[1] data mining is becoming an increasingly important tool to transform this data into information. It is commonly used in a wide range of profiling practices, such as marketing, surveillance, fraud detection and scientific discovery. Data mining can be applied to data sets of any size. However, while it can be used to uncover hidden patterns in data that have been collected, obviously it can neither uncover patterns which are not already present in the data, nor can it uncover patterns in data that have not been collected. I reblog his articles with Zemanta and then bookmark them all-they can be the ultimate referencepoint-Mr Rubel has a very unique method of presenting his links by order of interest This is not an easy task-to build a content model- Micro Persuasion blog on digital trends, which launched in 2004, today has 50,000 daily readers and has been cited as a must-read by the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, CNET, PC Magazine and Forrester Research. In addition, he is actively followed by more than 17,000 on Twitter, writes a bi-weekly column for Advertising Age and is often sought by the press and as a keynote speaker. Micro Persuasion: Three Ways the Media is Innovating with New Interfaces - 0 views

  •
Innovating with New Interfaces Fire and Water Pendant Image by lunarpersuasion via Flickr I have seen very few people that are always on the mark Steve Rubel :-IS "Several months ago I had lunch with a major media company executive who told me that, in the future, content will not be subsidized by banner ads splashed liberally on news pages. This is something that the current economic situation is hopefully accelerating as display ad quality plummets to new lows. I remain convinced that the media must innovate their way out of this situation from both editorial and sales, but no one seems to be really doing so on the advertising side. If you want a glimpse of what's next for media then you need to really look to the editorial side of the house. As we've seen, that's where all the innovation is happening these days - and its changing how we engage with content. Here a look are three promising approaches and their potential implications." Steve Rubel TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2009 Biography Steve Rubel, SVP, Director of Insights for Edelman Digital, is responsible for keeping Edelman and its clients in the vanguard. He studies global technology, media and online trends and shapes them into actionable insights and marketing communications strategies. In his role, Rubel curates and writes a monthly white paper on digital trends. These are distributed free to clients. In addition, he draws on these insights in his role as a senior strategic advisor to Edelman clients such as PepsiCo, Zagat, Unilever, Microsoft and many others. Rubel supports the account planning processes, intellectual property development and the firm's innovation and business development efforts. He is a member of the Edelman Digital senior leadership committee. His Micro Persuasion blog on digital trends, which launched in 2004, today has 50,000 daily readers and has been cited as a must-read by the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, CNET, PC Magazine and Forrester Research. In 2008, Two Contrarians Showed Blogging is Alive and Well - Authenticities - Edelman Digital I like the fact that Steve Rubel supports using stats. "Earlier this year Wired magazine created a stir when it declared that starting a blog today for thought leadership or money is fruitless. "The time it takes to craft sharp, witty blog prose is better spent expressing yourself on Flickr, Facebook, or Twitter," Paul Boutin wrote. There's validity to the argument. For example, there's no way I would start a gadget blog given the competition. Not only do you have Engadget, Gizmodo and Crunchgear, but now the media's getting into the game as well. The New York Times recently launched Gadgetwise. Wired's thesis is certainly the conventional wisdom today. Twitter, Friendfeed and Facebook all posted massive growth this year. Blogging, meanwhile, declined by some measures. Daily postings receded from 1.5 million per day last year to 900,000 in 2008, according to Technorati. Conventional wisdom, however, is where you find contrarians thriving. And in 2008 two stood out - Jeremiah Owyang and Chris Brogan. As you can see from the Google Trends traffic chart (also below), which includes Micro Persuasion (my blog), they're eating my lunch! Acumen Fund - 0 views

The Blue Sweater by Jacqueline Novogratz is a Book I just finished reading- I was sent a review copy-It really defines Bitter Sweet Bittersweet refers to a combination of the standard tastes of sweetness and bitterness, and is often used as a metaphor for experiences which have elements of both happiness and sadness.  It is another addition to the never ending Saga of Our Africa-Poverty-Murder-Sadness-it is beautifully written by a Great Lady with A very Clear Conscience-I say our Africa since if we live on the Mortal Coil we own the complete coil not just a segment-Seth Godin who first discussed the Fund on Squidoo lives on the total coil-and Condition-Mortal coil is a poetic term that means the troubles of daily life and the strife and suffering of the world. It is used in the sense of a burden to be carried or abandoned, most famously in the phrase "shuffle[d] off this mortal coil" from Shakespeare's Hamlet.   I will pass my copy If you live in Royal Oak Michigan E Mail me at marshal.m1@gmail.com I will send you my copy or drop it off to you-then you can read and pass it on-or go to amazon and you can buy one-
