Do Teachers Need Education Degrees? - Room for Debate Blog - NYTimes.com - 0 views

In light of the fact that we are all pursuing higher degrees in education, I found this debate forum to be very interesting. Some argue for and against and also bring factors such as using advance degrees as the basis for pay increases and promotions versus student performance into the debate.

This would be a good "jumping off" point for a discussion on what it means to protect a culture and how a culture can be threatened. I would definitely use this in any middle-high school course

Hidden in this tab are chances for students to get involved in policy discussions across the world. For example, the Ibero-American Youth Forum was just held in Seville, Spain for spanish speaking youth interested in discussing global tourism and global landscapes. These are great opportunities to get students involved in international issues.

This site was a research project by Daryn Cambridge while he was in the International Training and Education Program at American University. It's a great Peace Education Resource

Daryn was a teacher trainer for years and all of his "Activities" are student centered, multi-sensory and action-based.

Dave's ESL cafe is a site that is maintained by Dave Sperling. I cannot find any information about the man and his affiliations on the website, but he does have contact info.

Dave collects and posts lesson plans, strategies, and assessments for teaching English language learners. Dave appears to have exclusive control on what gets posted, and there are a lot of helpful ideas from educators around the world.

I think this site is a great resource for teachers with ELL students. It maintains a large selection of works collected from educators. Many of the lesson aim at creating a more active and fun classroom. Also, if the forum was up and running it would also be a great place for teachers to help one another with their teaching dilemmas.

Dave's ESL Cafe includes a wide selection of strategies, lesson plans, and tools for teaching English language learners. There is a section for teachers as well as a section for students themselves.
