This is the About Page for the ARDA, a resource whose mission is to "democratize access" to data. It contains links to national surveys, denominational histories, etc. and emphasizes accountability. Scholars and amateur researchers may submit source to ARDA, and the staff validates the findings.

This site is the best I've found so far in my search process. It provides tons of links to Social Informatics Highlights, Blogs, Associations, Sources, and Related Fields.

There is a lot of information on this site and it is very helpful.

i've come across this site before in an earlier iteration. I still am up in the air about the perspective and resources. I'll have to give it a more careful read.

I found a similar article from the UN sharing how cell phones and texting was used during a recent election in Kenya to limit riots and other unsafe activities. Though not used for either candidate the initiative did save lives and destruction of public areas by quickening the response times of police.

The internet being cut off in Egypt is just unprecedented. What are people reading and what sources are they following? Is this the way that we power it all in the future? This is a start up company and there are still many questions about how this will become a marketable energy source, but the issue of powering a digital future at a reasonable cost is and important area of investigation and/or planning.

I completely agree Judy. Google has started to look at the energy issue, I believe in part, because so much power is needed to run their servers.

I find this interesting because it begins the notion of transforming an online content source to a book, and moreover it is built around a social application with the potential for multiple authors. Essentially, Anthologize allows the authors of the blog to take specific posts and generate them into a book. By the way, the developers of this are from the Center for History and New Media, see the next post!

OK my favorite thing on this blog is the Norwegian translated term for Social Informatics- "Samfunnsinformatikk". It really made me aware of just how international and not so narrow this field is. I can get caught up in a real American world view and this little tidbit kind of opened my eyes a bit and made me realize that there will be great international sources too!

I was interested in the concept of Bildung, which incorporates many different aspects of knowledge gathering and personal growth such as moral development, generosity, scientific thinking etc. It is relevant to me, as an educator.

This is data that will cause some privacy issues. Now one can really be connected.

wow, and the data persists even when you upgrade the phone! The article says "In some ways, this shouldn't be surprising. Back in June of 2010, Apple updated its privacy policy to include a paragraph that allows Apple and "partners and licensees" to collect and store user location data." But of course hardly anyone reads the fine print.
