Hard to include Club Penguin as a social networking site. My daughters used it when they were little and were more interested in the game than the limited networking aspect.
Wiki based on statistics and information supporting use of social networking, and internet use in education. Although a little dated (2006) it's clear to see how things have progressed as expected through today. "Did you know 2.0" is a video worth the time.
Note for art teachers that if students are creating work for others to critic they may take it more seriously. Especially true for those who think they aren't any good so they don't try.
Love Zoho for students to work together on a presentation on a period in art history, or a study of the life and work of an artist. They could even create a group presentation with artist statements and images of their work creating a collective body of work for public presentation. I know some find powerpoint pass`e, but it's still a good simple program for the many different learning levels that enter a single art classroom. Overall great tools to review and consider.
This Wiki not only offers great insight through a video included called "Did you know 2.0" but through other quotes and references. Although it's a litte dated, 2006, it's amazing how its easy to see the progression from then to now five years later.
Persuasive article using statistics to demonstrate the reason why we should be including social networking in our schools and for our students. Love the example of posting a paper for parents, peers and teachers to critique so students take it more seriously.
When presenting a unit on Color, it would be a shame to miss a master, Henry Matisse. Matisse used color in a bold, passionate way and his work should be introduced in the a color unit.
The use of color in logo design. Great introduction for students and can easily lead into a design lesson. Reference students' own favorite logos and brands.
Community network of contributors who share design trends, inspiration, palettes and patterns. Contributors are from all around the world. See how color is used in design and experience it yourself.
Difference and uses for Additive vs Subtractive color mixing. This is a little more advanced information for an older classroom, or one exploring technology design and understanding.
A "non-traditional" student working on my graduate degree in art education. Currently possess BS in Graphic Design, but I want to teach traditional arts in addition to design. I love both and am preparing myself to help students realize their opportunities in creative careers.
