How Important Are Students' Digital Footprints? | Global Digital Citizen Foundation - 0 views

  •
"Managing your digital identity is a skill that everyone needs to learn and educators should be teaching their students about. In a digitally focused world students may not understand the implications of what is shared via social media. Teachers need to be fully aware and proactive and start teaching students about the effects of their on-line activity and how to manage their own digital footprints."

Why Digital Citizenship is an Opportunity for Educators and Students to Learn Together ... - 0 views

  •
"In our digital society, the concept of what to share in public is hard for kids to understand. And it's harder for adults to pass on sage wisdom because we're also still figuring it out ourselves. While students are grappling with, "Should I post that picture of myself dancing absurdly at that party?", teachers are grappling with the question, "Should I post that picture of myself dancing absurdly at that party?" Teaching about citizenship is an excellent opportunity for teachers to be learners alongside their students." Ideas on how to learn and share are suggested in rest of post.

If learners live online, teachers and textbooks must follow them - 0 views

  •
"The web is increasingly one of the places in which we live and work and in the future it will be where many aspects of life will converge. People are likely to become more resident over time and to conduct more of their lives in the online environment - the web can empower the individual with a voice, with potential benefits and risks that entails. So it's better that we begin to understand in detail now those motivations to engage, act and interact online that will grow in the future."

BBC News - BBC to publish 'right to be forgotten' removals list - 0 views

  •
"The BBC is to publish a continually updated list of its articles removed from Google under the controversial "right to be forgotten" rule. The ruling allows people to ask Google to remove some types of information about them from its search index. But editorial policy head David Jordan told a public meeting, hosted by Google, that the BBC felt some of its articles had been wrongly hidden. He said greater care should be given to the public's "right to remember". Following the ruling, Google set up a form on its site allowing people to request which links should be taken down."

Library User Survey Templates & How-Tos - Library Research Service - 0 views

  •
"Are you interested in learning more about your patrons' usage of and satisfaction with your library, and their demographics? Here are 3 sample survey templates of different lengths to be used "as is" or adapted to your organization's specific research needs. The short survey template focuses on customer satisfaction, the medium and long survey templates add questions about library usage, and the long survey template also includes a demographics section. Before using the templates, it is important to read them carefully to ensure that all of the questions pertain to your library and to your information needs. Each template is formatted as a Microsoft Word document in order that you may delete, add, or modify questions as necessary. Each of these survey templates is intended to be very general to offer the richest opportunity for follow-up. For example, if you learned from the surveys that your patrons were less than satisfied with your library's facilities, you might then create a follow-up survey or plan interviews or focus groups to explore that issue at greater length."

Is E-Reading to Your Toddler Story Time, or Simply Screen Time? - NYTimes.com - 0 views

  •
Interesting article. Some children's books look/sound fabulous on a tablet. Tap the screen and hear/see action. "But does this count as story time? Or is it just screen time for babies? It is a question that parents, pediatricians and researchers are struggling to answer as children's books, just like all the other ones, migrate to digital media."
