Anticipating fan interest and trying to keep its audience engrossed, ABC embarked on various cross-media endeavors, often using new media. Fans of Lost have been able to explore ABC-produced tie-in websites, tie-in novels, an official forum sponsored by the creative team behind Lost ("The Fuselage"), "mobisodes," podcasts by the producers, an official magazine, and an alternate reality game (ARG) "The Lost Experience."[132][134] An official fanclub was launched in the summer of 2005 through Creation Entertainment.[12

The Lost series has a wandering cryptic storyline which spawns numerous unresolved questions.[9] Encouraged by Lost's writers and stars, who often interact with fans online, viewers and TV critics alike have taken to rampant theorization in an attempt to unravel the mysteries.

Lostpedia has set up fourteen sister projects for non-English language contributions in Chinese, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. The policy of not providing spoilers until an episode has aired extends to a few of these sister projects, and is based on local air dates rather than the North American air dates.

Rubin will offer his views on the problematic yet remarkable development of European Humanities University (EHU), formerly in Minsk, and will show videos made by Belarusan students often working in collaboration with SUNY students.

For seven years, Rubin has been developing and teaching his Cross Cultural Video course in which SUNY students have co-produced videos with students in Turkey, Mexico, Belarus, Germany and Lithuania. He taught the course with EHU in Minsk until 2005, when that university was shut down by the government

While at SUNY Cortland, Rubin also wishes to meet faculty interested in online international learning. With the participation of a number of SUNY Cortland colleagues, COIL has become a leading center for on-line teaching and learning along an international dimension. According to Rubin, the mission of COIL is to develop more on-line courses with an international dimension throughout SUNY.
