Example of how a school librarian is using Pinterest to share resources with students and teachers in her middle school. Teachers, school counselors, students, etc. could use it in a similar way.

Linda Yollis, an award-winning 3rd grade teacher, made this video with her students to share how they have used blogs to learn the importance of connecting online with others online, about Digital Footprints and Internet safety, and sharing their voice. I think you'll enjoy it and hopefully think about the ways you encourage students to make their writing/learning visible and connect with others, whether it be a blog or an interactive online discussion. 

Planet Nutshell produces short animated videos to explain products, services, and concepts. One of their series of videos is all about the Internet and Internet safety for K-12 students. The series is called NetSafe and it has 17 episodes that were produced for the Utah Education Network. The videos are labeled with grade levels so that students in high school don't watch videos designed for K-3 students. (Via Free Tech for Teachers)

Richard Byrne provides links to 8 resources for teaching students what plagiarism is, how to avoid it, and how to detect it. 

Students at Burlington HS took on the task of learning about Digitla Citizenship and built this site. I love how students interviewed teachers and students, and also the school principal, and also posted examples of good/bad practices. Points to the fact we need to work on this concept and that of a "Digital Footprint"

"Geo Listening " provides a service that monitors the posts of the 14,000 students in the Glendale Unified School District, to help curtail cyberbullying, drug use, and other problems. This article provides for great discussion with students, teachers, admin., and parents.

WHAT IS INFORMATION LITERACY? Information Literacy is the ability to identify what information is needed, understand how the information is organized, identify the best sources of information for a given need, locate those sources, evaluate the sources critically, and share that information. It is the knowledge of commonly used research techniques. Great 7 module course on Information Literacy - would be good for teachers,  high school students, as well as some modules for younger students.

This interactive online module takes students through a CyberTour of twelve mock websites to test their savvy surfing skills.  It includes a 20-question online quiz that provides additional food for thought about the Web issues that the brother and sister team Josie and Joseph Cool encounter. Jo Cool or Jo Fool is also accompanied by an extensive Teacher's Guide, that contains background information for teachers, and questions and classroom activities for students, about online issues such as marketing, privacy, safety, responsible Internet use and authenticating information.

A top-notch presentation on "Copyright for Educators" by Wesley Fryer, educator in Oklahoma. 

"ThinkB4U offers interactive videos to educate viewers about things like protecting online reputations, avoiding scams, research and critical thinking, and responsible text messaging."

Alice Keeler helps provide some guidance in what is/isn't acceptable use with images/content on the Web.

Here your students will watch a short video/comic that explains copyright. Next, students can explore how copyright came to be by looking at the milestone files on record. Reading the Fine Print helps students answer questions such as: "Do I have to register a copyright to secure protection?"; "If it's on the Internet can I use it?"; and "Is it okay to use up to 5% of someone else's work?". Finally, students can learn what steps they need to take to secure a copyright for their work.

An interesting site regarding filtering in schools..... BalancedFiltering.org is a grassroots campaign to promote balanced content filtering in schools which complies with the law, promotes accountability, and encourages responsible digital citizenship
